Had an honest and liberal enquiry into the truth of this assertion, been preferred to a blind acquiescence with the vulgar prejudices of the day, so ignorantly entertained towards this valuable summary of the Christian Faith; it would have been discovered, that the anomaly so bitterly complained of, does by no means exist; and that the just principle for admitting, and retaining, this most Orthodox Creed in the Book of Common Prayer; was its perfect agreement with the pure and holy doctrines and spirit of the Christian Faith, as revealed in the Gospel; and its entire accordance with the other truly evangelical Creeds, Sacraments, Articles, and Prayers of the Established Church.

As the period is at hand, when the same arguments will probably be urged in sup

port of the cause of the Roman Catholic, at the expense of the Protestant Church; We shall endeavour to establish the truth

of these observations by the force of evidence.

INTRODUCTION.

THE Church of England is a Christian built upon the foundation

Communion,

of the Apostles and Prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief corner-stone, in whom all the building fitly framed together, groweth into an holy temple in the Lord."

The Gospel of Christ is the standard to which her Creeds, Articles, Sacraments, and Services, are conformed; and the wisdom and piety of ages have contributed to make her adorn the doctrine of God her Saviour in all things."

In the essential obligations of the Christian Faith, the Protestant Established

Church may justly be said to embrace Christians of all denominations. Any separation, therefore, from her Communion, must arise from choice rather than from necessity: how far that choice may be sanctioned by conscientious principles, we leave those to determine who have incurred this responsibility.

Acting upon that spirit of universal charity, which is inculcated in the Gospel; the Church of England, in providing religious services and devout exercises for the spiritual good of her members, addresses herself to all who believe in the great saving truths of the Christian dispensation; as well to those who are not immediately within her fold, but whom she desires to bring home to her flock; as to those whom she regards in the tender relation of children.

To all, therefore, who are looking for the salvation of the Gospel, through Faith in a crucified Saviour: to all who believe in the Holy, Blessed, and Glorious Trinity, Three Persons, and One God; and are depending with St. Paul, for their redemption, on "the Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Love of God, and the Fellowship of the Holy Ghost."-To all who with St. Peter are ready to confess, that

they know, and are sure, that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God:" and are persuaded, that "Christ through the Eternal Spirit offered Himself to God;" and thus became "the One Mediator between God and man, the Man Christ Jesus;" "God manifest in the flesh."-To all, I say, who contemplate the holy life and ministry, the meritorious death and
