PSALM 142. 10 bolder crimes aspire.

TO God, with mournful voice 9 Let first their chiefs the sad effects

in deep distress I pray'd ; of their injustice mourn;,

2 Made him the umpire of my causes The blast of their envenom'd breath

my wrongs before him laid. upon themselves return.

3 Thou didst my steps direct, 10 Let them who kindle first the flame, when my grieved soul despair'd; its sacrifice become;

For where I thought to walk secure, The pit they digg'd for me be made they had their traps prepared. their own untimely tomb.

4 I look’d, but found no friend 11 Though slander's breath may raise a to own me in distress; storm,

All refuge fail'd, no man vouchsafed it quickly will decay;

NOR ever bless'd be God the Lord,

I and King, who does his needful aid impart, thy endless praise proclaim ; At once both strength and skill afford, This tribute darty I will bring, * to wield my arms with warlike art. and ever bless thy name. 2 His goodness is my fort and tower, 3 Thou, Lord, beyond compare art great,

Such honour and triumph 11, 12 Let all of royal birth,

his saints shall enjoy: With those of humbler frame,

O therefore for ever and judges of the earth,
