lieveth not, if he be pleased to dwell with her, let her not leave him. For what knowest thou, O wife, whether thou shalt save thy husband?

1

1 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord: for the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands, in every thing.

2 Let the wife see that she reverence her husband.

3 Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. The woman is not suffered to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. For Adam was first formed, then Eve; and Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived, was first in the transgression.

* Ye wives be in subjection to your own husbands; that if any obey not the word, they also may with- · out the word be won by the conversation of the wives, while they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear.

For after this manner, in the old time, the holy women who trusted in God were in subjection unto their own husbands; even as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are as long as ye do well.

A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband; but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.

her house inclineth unto death, and her paths unto the dead.

1 The contentions of a wife are a continual dropping.

2 A prudent wife is from the Lord. The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her: she will do him good and not evil all the days of her life. She openeth her mouth with wisdom, and in her tongue is the law of kindness. She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleHer children rise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.

PARENTS AND CHILDREN.

Parents.

3 Ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath; but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord; having them in subjection with all gravity.

4 The words which God hath commanded you, ye shall lay up in your heart; and ye shall teach them diligently unto your children. And ye shall command your children and your household after you, to keep the way of the Lord, to do justice and judgment, and to observe to do all the words of his law.

5 Train up a child in the way he should go; and when he is old he will not depart from it.

rod and reproof give wisdom. And if thou withhold not correction, thou shalt deliver his soul from hell.

1 Correct thy son, and he shall give thee rest; yea, he shall give delight unto thy soul; but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame.

2

Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged.

3 Do not prostitute thy daughter, to cause her to be a whore, lest the land become full of wickedness.

4 The children ought not to lay up for the parents, but the parents for the children.

If any provide not for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.

6 When a man maketh his sons to inherit that which he hath, he shall give his first-born a double portion of all that he hath; for he is the beginning of his strength; the right of the first-born is his.

7

A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children.

Children.

8

Children, obey your parents in the Lord; for this is right. Obey your parents in all things; for this is well-pleasing to the Lord.

9 Honour thy father and thy mother (which is the first commandment with promise), that it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.

My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother.

2

Ye shall fear, every man, his mother, and his father.

$ Whoso curseth his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in obscure darkness.

* The eye which mocketh at his father, and despiseth to obey his mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, and the young eagles shall eat it. 5 Cursed be he that setteth light by his father or his mother.

He that wasteth his father, and chaseth away his mother, is a son that causeth shame, and bringeth reproach.

7

A wise son maketh a glad father; but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother.

MASTERS AND SERVANTS.

Masters.

Masters, give unto your servants that which is just and equal, forbearing_threatening, knowing that ye also have a Master in heaven; neither is there respect of persons with him.

9

Despise not the cause of thy man-servant, or of thy maid servant when they contend with thee. Did not he that made thee in the womb, make him? And did not one fashion us all in the womb?

10

Ye shall not rule one over another with rigour ; for ye are brethren.

"Woe unto him that useth his neighbour's service without wages, and giveth him not for his work.

Servants, be obedient to them that are Servants. your masters according to the flesh; not with eye-service, as men-pleasers, but in singleness of heart fearing God; and as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart; with good-will doing service as to the Lord, and not to men: knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free.

3

Servants, obey your masters in all things, and please them well in all things: not answering again, nor purloining, but showing all good fidelity.

4

Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear, not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward for this is thank-worthy, if a man for conscience-sake towards God endure grief, suffering wrongfully.

Be content with your wages.

They that have believing masters, let them not despise them because they are brethren; but rather do them service, because they are faithful and beloved, partakers of the benefit.

Let as many servants as are under the yoke, count their own masters worthy of all honour, that the name of God, and his doctrine, be not blasphemed.
