He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken. -Is. liii. 8.

Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.

He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied.-Is. liii. 10, 11.

He hath poured out his

Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously. -1 Pet. ii. 23.

And the soldiers led him away into the hall, called Pretorium; and they call together the whole band.

Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many.-Heb. ix. 28.

Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.-Lu. xxiii. 34. And they that passed by reviled him, wagging their heads,

For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have enclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet. I may tell all my bones. -Ps. xxii. 16.

These things were done, that the scripture. should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken.-John xix. 33,

And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself.-Dan. ix. 26.

But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came thereout blood and water.

And again another scripture saith, They shall look on him whom they pierced.-John xix. 34, 37.

Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many. -Matt. xx. 28.

XVIII.

CHRIST'S BURIAL.

And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth -Is. liii. 9.

And with him they crucify two thieves; the one on his right hand, and the other on his left. -Mark xv. 27.

When the even was come, there came a rich man of Arimathea, named Joseph, who also himself was Jesus's disciple:

He went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus.
