Οτε δὲ ἡμέρα ἐγένετο, τὴν γῆν οὐκ

Then the soldiers cut of the ropes of ἐπεγίνωσκον· κόλπον δὲ τινα κατενόουν the bout, and let her fall off.

VER. 33.

*Αχει δὲ οὗ ἔμελλεν ἡμέρα γίνεσθαι, πα ρεκάλει ὁ Παῦλος ἅπαντας μεταλαβεῖν τροφῆς, λέγων· Τεσσαρεσκαιδεκάτην σήμερον ἡμέραν, προσδοκῶντες, ἄσιτοι διατελεῖτε, μηδὲν προσλαβόμενοι.

And while the day was coming on, Paul besought them all to take meat, saying, This day is the fourteenth day that ye have tarried and continued fasting, having taken nothing.

VER. 34.

Διὸ παρακαλῶ ὑμᾶς προσλαβεῖν τροφῆς· τοῦτο γὰρ πρὸς τῆς ὑμετέρας σο τηρίας ὑπάρχει· οὐδενὸς γὰς ὑμῶν θρίξ ἐκ τῆς κεφαλῆς πεσεῖται.

Wherefore I pray you to take some meat: for this is for your health : for there shall not an hair fall from the head of any of you.

VER. 35.

Εἰπὼν δὲ ταῦτα, καὶ λαβὼν ἄρτον, εὐχαρίστησε τῷ Θεῷ ἐνώπιον πάντων, καὶ κλάσας ἤρξατο ἐσθίειν.

ἔχοντα αἰγιαλὸν, εἰς ὃν ἐβουλεύσαντο, εἰ δύναιντο, ἐξῶσαι τὸ πλοῖον.

And when it was day, they knew not the land: but they discovered a certain ereek with a shore, into the which they were minded, if it were possible, to thrust in the ship.

VER. 40.

Καὶ τὰς ἀγκύρας περιελόντες, εἴων εἰς τὴν θάλασσαν, ἅμα ἀνέντες τὰς ζευκτηρίας τῶν πηδαλίων· καὶ ἐπάραντες τὸν ἀρτέμονα τῇ πνεούσῃ, κατεῖχον εἰς τὸν αἰγιαλόν.

And when they had taken up the anchors, they committed themselves unto the sea, and loosed the rudder-bands, and hoisted up the main-sail to the wind, and made toward shore.

* Or, cut the anchors, they left them in the sea, &c.

Περιπεσόντες δὲ εἰς τόπον διθάλασσον, ἐπώκειλαν τὴν ναῦν· καὶ ἡ μὲν πρώρα ἐρείσασα ἔμεινεν ἀσάλευτος, ἡ δὲ πρύμνα ἐλύετο ὑπὸ τῆς βίας τῶν κυμάτων.

And falling into a place where two seas met, they ran the ship aground ; and And when he had thus spoken, he the fore part stuck fast, and remained VOL. II.

Ως δὲ εἶδον οἱ βάρβαροι κρεμάμενον τὸ θηρίον ἐκ τῆς χειρὸς αὐτοῦ, ἔλεγον πρὸς ἀλλήλους· Πάντως φονεύς ἐστιν ὁ ἄνθρωπος οὗτος, ὃν διασωθέντα ἐκ τῆς θαλάσσης ή δίκη ζῆν οὐκ εἴασεν...

And when the barbarians saw the venomous beast hang on his hand, they said among themselves, No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he hath escaped the sea, yet vengeance suf fereth not to live.

Ὁ μὲν οὖν, ἀποτινάξας τὸ θηρίον εἰς τὸ πῦρ, ἔπαθεν οὐδὲν κακὸν·

a And he shook off the beast into the fire, and felt no harm.

VER. 6.

Οἱ δὲ προσεδόκων αὐτὸν μέλλειν πίμ πρασθαι, ἢ καταπίπτειν ἄφνω νεκρὸν ἐπὶ πολὺ δὲ αὐτῶν προσδοκώντων, καὶ θεωρούν των μηδὲν ἄτοπον εἰς αὐτὸν γινόμενον, με ταβαλλόμενοι ἔλεγον θεὸν αὐτὸν εἶναι.

Howbeit they looked when he should have swollen, or fallen down dead suddenly: but after they had looked a great while, and saw no harm come to him, they changed their minds, and said that he was a god.

VER. 7.

Ἐν δὲ τοῖς περὶ τὸν τόπον ἐκεῖνον ὑπῆρχε χωρία τῷ πρώτῳ τῆς νήσου, ὀνόματι Ποπλίω, ὃς ἀναδεξάμενος ἡμᾶς, τρεῖς ἡμέρας φιλοφρόνως ἐξένισεν.

In the same quarters were possessions of the chief man of the island, whose name was Publius; who received us, and lodged us three days courteously.

VER. 8.

Εγένετο δὲ τὸν πατέρα τοῦ Ποπλίου πυρετοῖς καὶ δυσεντερία συνεχόμενον και τακεῖσθαι· πρὸς ἂν ὁ Παῦλος εἰσελθὼν, καὶ προσευξάμενος, ἐπιθεὶς τὰς χεῖρας αὐτῷ, ἰάσατο αὐτόν.

And it came to pass, that the father of Publius lay sick of a fever and of a bloody flur: to whom Paul entered in,

Τούτου οὖν γενομένου, καὶ οἱ λοιποὶ οἱ ἔχοντες ἀσθενείας ἐν τῇ νήσῳ, προσήρχοντο, καὶ ἐθεραπεύοντο·

So when this was done, others also, which had diseases in the island, came, and were healed :

VER. 10.

Οἳ καὶ πολλαῖς τιμαῖς ετίμησαν ἡμᾶς, καὶ ἀναγομένοις ἐπέθεντο τὰ πρὸς τὴν χρείαν.

And from thence, when the brethren heard of us, they came to meet us as far as Apii forum, and The three taverns : whom when Paul saw, he thanked God, and took courage.

VER. 16.

Ὅτε δὲ ἤλθομεν εἰς Ρώμην, ὁ ἑκατόνταρχος παρέδωκε τοὺς δεσμίους τῷ στρα τοπεδάρχῃ τῷ δὲ Παύλῳ ἐπετράπη μένειν καθ ̓ ἑαυτὸν, σὺν τῷ φυλάσσοντι αὐτὸν στρατιώτη.

And when we came to Rome, the centain of the guard: but Paul was suf turion delivered the prisoners to the cap

VER. 17.

Εγένετο δὲ μετὰ ἡμέρας τρεῖς συγκα λέσασθαι τὸν Παῦλον τοὺς ὄντας τῶν Ἰουδαίων πρώτους· συνελθόντων δὲ αὐτῶν, ἔλεγε πρὸς αὐτούς· ̓́Ανδρες ἀδελφοὶ, ἐγὼ οὐδὲν ἐναντίον ποιήσας τῷ λαῷ, ἢ τοῖς ἔθεσι τοῖς πατρώοις, δέσμιος ἐξ Ιεροσο λύμων παρεδόθην εἰς τὰς χεῖρας τῶν Ῥωμαίων·

And it came to pass, that after three days Paul called the chief of the Jews together: and when they were come together, he said unto them, Men and brethren, though I have committed nothing against the people, or customs of our fathers, a yet was I delivered prisener, from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans.

Οἵτινες ἀνακρίναντές με ἐβούλοντο ἀπο λύσαι, διὰ τὸ μηδεμίαν αἰτίαν θανάτου ὑπάρχειν ἐν ἐμοί.

* Who, when they had examined me, would have let me go, because there was no cause of death in me.

VER. 19.

̓Αντιλεγόντων δὲ τῶν Ἰουδαίων, ἠναγ κάσθην ἐπικαλέσασθαι Καίσαρα· οὐχ ὡς τοῦ ἔθνους μου ἔχων τι κατηγορῆσαι.

a But when the Jews spake against it, was constrained to appeal unto Cesar ;

VER. 23. Ταξάμενοι δὲ αὐτῷ ἡμέραν, ἧκον πρὸς αὐτὸν εἰς τὴν ξενίαν πλείονες· οἷς ἐξετίθετο διαμαρτυρόμενος τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ Θεοῦ, πείθων τε αὐτοὺς τὰ περὶ τοῦ Ἰησοῦ, ἀπό τε του νόμου Μωσέως καὶ τῶν προφητῶν, ἀπὸ πρωΐ ἕως ἑσπέρας.

And when they had appointed him a day, there came many to him into his lodging; to whom he expounded and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the Law of Moses, and out of the Prophets, from morning till evening.

Ασύμφωνοι δὲ ὄντες πρὸς ἀλλήλους, ἀπελύοντο, εἰπόντος τοῦ Παύλου ῥῆμα ἔν ὅτι καλῶς τὸ Πνεῦμα τὸ ἅγιον ἐλάλησε διὰ Ησαίου τοῦ προφήτου πρὸς τοὺς πατά έρας ἡμῶν,

And when they agreed not among themselves, they departed, after that a spake Paul had spoken one word, Well a the Holy Ghost by Esaias the prophet unto our fathers,

ἴδητε.

Ἐπαχύνθη γὰρ ἡ καρδία τοῦ λαοῦ τού του, καὶ τοῖς ὠσὶ βαρέως ήκουσαν, καὶ τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς αὑτῶν ἐκάμμυσαν μήν ποτε ἴδωσι τοῖς ὀφθαλμοῖς, καὶ τοῖς ὠσὶν ἀκούσασι, καὶ τῇ καρδίᾳ συνῶσι, καὶ ἐπιστρέψωσι, καὶ ἰάσομαι αὐτούς.

For the heart of this people is wared gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be centered, and I should heal them.

VER. 28.

Γνωστὸν οὖν ἔστω ὑμῖν ὅτι τοῖς ἔθνεσιν ἀπεστάλη τὸ σωτήριον τοῦ Θεοῦ· αὐτοὶ καὶ ἀκούσονται.

Be it known therefore unto you, that the salvation of God bis sent unto the Gentiles, and that they will hear it.
