İN 1770, a new edition of Mr Adamson's Poem of The Muse's Threnodie was published by Mr James Cant; who illustrated the frequent passages of local reference, with so many notes, that the book popularly acquired the title of "The History of Perth." It has now become exceedingly scarce; and being the only áccount of this important place in print, is consequently in considerable demand. For several years the advertiser has purposed to reprint it; but he has been hitherto with-held by the expectation that the Literary and Antiquarian Society woul dgive to the world, a work, more worthy the title of an History of their native place. He has participated with the Public in the disappointment of this hope; and therefore offers to their patronage, the following collection of notices, chiefly from Mr Cant's book; which, barren and ill digested as they aré, must, for the present, occupy the situation of a more worthy volume.

Ir may appear singular, that an account of Perth should have been printed elsewhere. The incessant occupation of the press, here, by the ENCYCLOPEDIA PERTHENSIS, is the cause. The Advertiser will have it in his power to furnish complete setts of that elaborate Work, which has been so many years in progress, in the beginning of 1806.

PERTH, Dec. 1805.
