INTELLECTUAL PHILOSOPHY

For Children and Youth in Schools and Families. By EMERSON DAVIS, A.M. Preceptor of Westfield Academy. This book, though small, it is hoped may be of some utility in leading to an early developement of all the faculties of the mind, and of begetting a spirit of inquiry respecting objects and phenomena of nature. Teachers will find it a book which will aid them in their labours considerably.

THE LITTLE GRAMMARIAN,

Or an easy Guide to the parts of Speech; designed for young persons at home, and particularly adapted to facilitate instruction in Preparatory Schools. This little work has been much admired by all who have examined it, and the interest taken by children in the very amusing stories introduced to exemplify the several parts of speech, has facilitated their acquisition of this dry study. Illustrated with numerous cuts. Two editions have been sold in a few months, and the work has since been revised and stereotyped.

"The Little Grammarian, by a Teacher,' is an excellent little work. The system is illustrated by engravings and stories; and the excellence of it is, that at every step the child understands the reason and meaning of what he learns."-Bost. Journal of Educa.

LEE'S SPELLING BOOK.

Containing the rudiments of the English Language: with appropriate reading lessons. By THOMAS J. LEE, esq.

This work was written in 1821, the orthography of Johnson and pronunciation of Walker forming its groundwork, since which time its extensive introduction into schools and the sale of seven large editions form the best criterion of its merit. It is highly recommended by preceptors, presidents and professors of colleges, and literary men.

PRIMARY SCHOOL BOOK.

A Spelling Book for small children; being an abridgment of the preceding work for Primary Schools, and adopted by the School Committees of Boston, &c. Fourth edition; to which is added the First Book of the Edin

burgh Sessional School.

We venture to pronounce this the cheapest Spelling Book extant, peculiar care being bestowed on the binding of this, (as well as on the larger Lee) and having, in addition to the original, the whole of Wood's First Book, so largely spoken of in this volume.

BIBLE BIOGRAPHY,

or Questions upon all the personages in the Old and New Testament, copied from the last edition used in the Edinburgh Sessional School, and adapted in a superior degree for the use of Sunday, Sabbath, Lord's-day, or WeekDay Schools. Prepared by Mr. Wood, the author of this volume.

CONVERSATIONS ON COMMON THINGS.

or, Guide to Knowledge. With Questions. For the use of schools and families. By the author of "Evening Hours," "Private Hours," &c. Stereotype improved edition.

"The design of this little volume is excellent. The author endeavours to furnish the minds of children with useful miscellaneous information on many things which do not fall under any of the common divisions of education, but are of vast importance in common life. The work is intended for the use of schools; but we know of few publications which are better adapted for the purpose of family instruction, or for enlivening a winter evening's fireside."-Journal of Edu.

HISTORY OF ENGLAND.

comprised in a set of easy lessons; being one of a series of Historical Books for Children. With Tables of Chronology, Events, &c. Mrs. TRIMMER.

By

This work has been highly commended by cotemporary Reviews, and has been introduced into several public seminaries; but it is equally appropriate for private amusement and instruction.
