UNDER THE PATRONAGE OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH IN THE U. STATES OF AMERICA.

THE publication, which for two years and an half has been usually known by the appellation of " The Assembly's Magazine," will hereafter appear under the above title. With the consent and approbation of the General Assembly at their last Sessions, a radical change has been made in the whole econo my of the Miscellany, which has heretofore born their name. Experience has demonstrated that the former plan for conducting this work, which contemplated the voluntary aid of many writers to furnish original matter, for it, was fallacious. Such aid has not been received, and the consequence has been, that the work has languished. For the future, the editor has become solely responsible for the materials which the Magazine shall contain. To ensure, however, the orthodoxy of the publication, the Assembly have appointed the Rev. Dr. Green, and the Rev. Mr. Alexander, of this city, to inspect all the pieces which may be proposed for publication, and to see that nothing improper be admitted.

It should be particularly noticed, that the part of the title which hitherto has declared this miscellany to be "the Assembly's Magazine," is expunged, and that their character is now no further connected with it, than what may be implied in that portion of the present title which states, that it is pub-. lished under their patronage. This patronage has been afforded, not only because it was believed that the Magazine would directly serve the interests of Evangelical piety by the discussions and information which it would contain, but because there is a prospect that it may ultimately bring a thousand dollars annually into the funds of the Assembly.
