I HAVE been requested to write a Preface to this volume. It is upon a vitally important subject, namely, "The Emblems of the Holy Ghost." I have for some years felt deeply persuaded that the Holy Spirit is not sufficiently known, loved, honoured, and worshipped in the church and the world. The short treatises in this book are sound, Scriptural, and interesting; and are calculated, by the teaching of the Holy Spirit, to be exceedingly useful.

I have much pleasure in recommending them to all readers of evangelical literature. May God graciously smile upon this effort of His ministering servant to promote His glory, the extension of His kingdom, the honouring the ever-blessed Spirit, and the eternal benefit of man! This is my hearty wish and fervent prayer.

HENRY LAW HARKNESS,

Rector of S. Swithin,

January, 1883.

Worcester.
