At a regular meeting of the Piscataqua Association held in Seabrook Oct. 19th, 1880, the question of observing the Centenary of the Association was considered, and it was decided to celebrate it with appropriate public services, and Revs. Geo. B. Spalding, D. D., Edward Robie, D. D., T. V. Haines, J. H. Stearns and Swift Byington were chosen a Committee of Arrangements. At a subsequent meeting of the Association in Eliot, Me., where the first meeting of which we have any record was held, the Scribe, Rev. Isaac C. White, was added to the Committee of Arrangements. At a meeting of the Centenary Committee held at Newmarket Junction Aug. 10th, 1881, Rev. Geo. B. Spalding, D. D., was invited to deliver the Historical Discourse, and Revs. E. Robie, D. D., A. H. Quint, D. D., Geo. B. Spalding, D. D., J. H. Stearns, T. V. Haines, Swift Byington, and W. A. McGinley were invited to give reminiscences of former members. The North Congregational Church and Society of Portsmouth, having invited the Association to occupy their house of worship and accept their hospitality at the proposed celebration, a circular was issued by the Committee inviting former members of the Association and other ministers with their wives, and all others interested in the celebration, to attend the Centennial services on Wednesday, Oct. 26th, 1881. The day was pleasant and there was a large attendance of members of the Association, other ministers and representatives of neighboring churches. |
