The statisties of the South Church in New Haven.

On inquiry from the Statistical Secretary, whether the statistics of the South Church in New Haven shall be published, as in former years, a motion was made to omit them. Pending the discussion elicited by this motion, the Association took a recess until half past two o'clockhaving first made the hearing of the delegates of the Christian Commission, and of the American Missionary Association, the order of the day for a quarter before eight o'clock on Thursday evening.

Wednesday afternoon.-Report on the state of religion.

The Association came to order at half past two o'clock, and proceeded to business. The committee on the state of religion presented a report which was read, accepted, and ordered to be printed with the minutes. (Report VIII.)

Reports of delegates to corresponding bodies.

Rev. J. A. McKinstry made a report of his attendance, as a delegate, upon the General Congregational Conference of Ohio; and Rev. M. N. Morris, of his attendance upon the General Association of Massachusetts.

Statistical Secretary and Treasurer.

Rev. William H. Moore was elected Statistical Secretary and Treasurer for the ensuing year.

The Lord's supper.

The hour of three o'clock, previously designated for public worship, having arrived, Rev. D. S. Brainerd read the report on the state of religion, and the Association joined with the First Church of this city in commemorating the sacrament of the Lord's supper. Rev. Joel H. Linsley, D.D., and Rev. Reuben Gaylord conducted the services of the

occasion.

The statistics of the South Church in New Haven.

When the Association came to order the question concerning the South Church in New Haven was resumed, and after a prolonged discussion the following action was taken :

Whereas an ecclesiastical council, representing the Congregational churches in different parts of the State, have after deliberation recommended that fellowship be withdrawn from the South Church in New Haven; and have declared that it is not, in the proper use of the term, a Congregational church; therefore,

Resolved, That the statistics of that church should not appear in our Minutes.

Place of next annual meeting.

Windsor Locks was designated as the place of the next annual meeting.

Report of Trustees of copy-right of "Psalms and Hymns."

The Trustees of the copy-right of "Psalms and Hymns" presented a report on the question concerning additional hymns, referred to them by the General Association in 1863. Their report was accepted, and referred to a special committee, consisting of Rev. Messrs. H. P. Arms, T. L. Shipman, and D. S. Brainerd.

Tobacco.

An overture from Hartford Fourth Association, on the subject of raising tobacco, was read and referred to a special committee, consisting of Rev. Messrs. Joel Hawes, D.D., Joseph Eldridge, D.D., B. F. Northrop, and W. S. Colton.

Amendment of the constitution of the Trustees of the Fund for Disabled Ministers; and committee to procure an incorporation of the Trustees. Rev. S. G. Willard and Judge W. W. Ellsworth were requested to report to this Association what measures, if any, are necessary to enable the Trustees of the Fund for Disabled Ministers and Needy Widows and Orphans of Deceased Ministers, legally to hold the funds, or other property, which may be entrusted to them. They subsequently reported, recommending that Art. IV of the constitution be amended by an additional section-which was adopted, and is as follows:

"They shall have power to receive, either by themselves or their Secretary, and pay over to their Treasurer, any funds given for the purposes specified in Art. III of the constitution, until such time as the Committee shall be incorporated by the Legislature of Connecticut."

Mr. Willard and Judge Ellsworth were also appointed to procure, if possible, from the Legislature of Connecticut an act incorporating "The Trustees of the Fund for the Aid of Disabled Ministers and the Needy Widows and Orphans of Deceased Ministers."

Report on the relations of the pastor and the church to the Sunday school.

The report of the committee on the relations of the pastor and the church to the Sunday school was made the order of the day for Thursday morning, at nine o'clock.

Overtures reviewing Report XI, published for examination, in minutes of 1863.

Overtures from Hartford Fourth and New London Associations, were presented and read, reviewing Report XI, published for examination, in Minutes of 1863, "on the proper way of supplying vacant pulpits; and the distinctive positions in respect to our churches, of pastors, act

ing pastors, and stated preachers." The subject was made the order of the day for Thursday, at eleven o'clock.

The Association then took a recess for tea.

Wednesday evening.-Annual meeting of the Connecticut Home Missionary Society. Report of the Directors. Addresses.

The Association met at a quarter before eight o'clock and held its annual session as the Connecticut Home Missionary Society. Prayer was offered by Rev. George J. Tillotson. The annual report of the Directors was read, and addresses were made by Rev. Messrs. Isaac P. Langworthy, Reuben Gaylord, and John P. Gulliver. The report of the Directors was then accepted and ordered to be printed with the minutes, and the Association adjourned to Thursday morning, at 9 o'clock. (Report VII.)

Thursday morning, June 23.-Devotional services.

The hour from eight to nine o'clock was spent in social worship. At nine o'clock a note was received from the Moderator stating his inability to be present in consequence of ill health. Rev. David L. Parmelee was chosen Moderator pro tempore. Prayer was offered, and the minutes of yesterday were read and approved.

Report on the relations of the pastor and the church to the Sunday

school.

The committee appointed last year "on the relations of the pastor and the church to the Sunday school," presented a report which was read, accepted, and ordered to be printed with the minutes. (Report XII.)

Concert of prayer for the nation.

It was resolved, That it be recommended to the churches to observe the fourth Sabbath evening of each month as a concert of prayer for our country in this time of its trial and peril.

Committee to report on the management of the Am. Bible Society.

The following action was taken with reference to the American Bible Society:

Whereas there is prevalent in some quarters a degree of distrust of the practical management of the American Bible Society; and whereas it is very desirable that such distrust, if not well founded, should be dispelled and the actual facts be known;

Therefore, Resolved, That Rev. Messrs. Myron N. Morris, W. T. Eustis, Jr., and Leonard W. Bacon, and Messrs. W. C. Crump, Esq., and Henry White, Esq., be a committee to investigate the subject, and pre

sent a report upon it at the next annual meeting of the General Association.

Report of committee on pastoral libraries.

The committee on pastoral libraries presented a report which was read, accepted, and ordered to be printed with the minutes. (Report IV.)

It was understood that the same committee be continued for the ensuing year, namely, Rev. Messrs. E. W. Robinson, N. Porter, Jr., D.D., and R. C. Learned.

Report of Trustees of Missionary Society of Connecticut and officers of the Society for the ensuing year.

The report of the Trustees of the Missionary Society of Connecticut was read, accepted, and ordered to be printed with the minutes. (Report III.)

The officers of the Society were then appointed as follows:

Trustees-Rev. Messrs. Joel Hawes, D.D., Myron N. Morris, R. G. Vermilye, D.D., E. L. Cleaveland, D.D., Jeremiah Taylor, D.D., T. K. Fessenden, Hon. Seth Terry, Edward Goodwin, Esq., George Kellogg, Esq., Samuel S. Ward, Esq., Nathaniel Shipman, Esq., Thomas Smith, Esq. Treasurer-Edward W. Parsons, Esq. Auditor-Rev. Horace Hooker.

Amendment of constitution of Connecticut Home Missionary Society.

It was resolved, That Art. VIII of the constitution of the Connecticut Home Missionary Society (Minutes of 1863, p. 9) be amended by adding the following words: "The official year of all officers of the Society shall begin with the annual meeting of the Directors."

Officers of the Connecticut Home Missionary Society, and of the Fund for Disabled Ministers and Needy Widows and Orphans of Ministers; and time and place of their annual meetings.

The officers of the Connecticut Home Missionary Society, and of the Fund for Disabled Ministers and Needy Widows and Orphans of Ministers, were appointed as follows-the same persons being elected for two offices:

Directors of Conn. Home Miss. Soc. and Trustees of the Fund.— Rev. Messrs. Joel Hawes, D.D., Leonard Bacon, D.D., J. P. Gulliver, Joseph Eldridge, D.D., Samuel G. Willard, L. W. Bacon, E. A. Lawrence, D.D., D. S. Brainerd, E. L. Cleaveland, D.D., C. W. Clapp, Hon. Seth Terry, William C. Crump, Esq., Alexander C. Twining, Esq., J. N. Stickney, Esq., Benjamin F. Douglas, Esq. Treasurer-Edward W. Parsons, Esq. Auditor-Rev. Horace Hooker.

The annual meeting of the Directors of the Conn. Home Miss. Soc., and of the Trustees of the Fund, was appointed at the lecture room in Divinity College, New Haven, at half past seven o'clock, on Monday evening, July 25, 1864.

A receptacle for books and papers of the General Association.

The Registrar was requested to provide, at the expense of this body, a trunk and portfolio for the keeping of books and papers at meetings of the General Association.

Subject for concio ad clerum in 1865-and preacher.

The committee on subject for concio ad clerum reported the following, which was adopted: The resurrection of Christ; its nature and effects. Hartford North having failed to nominate the preacher of the concio for 1865, that Association was requested to make a nomination at an early day; and it was voted, That such nomination as they might make, be accepted; and that the name of the preacher, if furnished in season, be published in the Minutes.

Treasurer's report, Tax, Printing and distributing the Minutes.

The committee on finance made a report, presenting the following resolutions, which were adopted:

Resolved, That the report of the Treasurer be printed with the minutes. (Report I.)

Resolved, That a tax of seventy-five cents be laid on each member of the several District Associations who is a resident of this State.

Resolved, That 1,800 copies of the Minutes be published; namely, 600 for the General Association, and 1,200 for the churches; and that they be distributed and paid for in the same way as in 1863.

Overtures reviewing Report XI in Minutes of 1863,

The time having come for resuming the discussion of the overtures from Hartford Fourth and New London Associations, they were taken and considered until the hour for dinner arrived, when a recess was voted until half past two o'clock.

Thursday afternoon.

The Association came together at half past two o'clock, and, the Moderator pro tempore not being present, Rev. Hiram P. Arms was chosen Moderator pro tempore.

The discussion on the overtures from Hartford Fourth and New London Associations was resumed, and the following action was taken.
