Pastoral libraries.

Whereas, many ministers of our churches are, and from their own unaided resources are likely to remain, inadequately supplied with standard and desirable books in Biblical and professional studies, the General Association desire that three independent plans be adopted to remedy this deficiency, viz:-The founding of a general fund, and of local or church funds, and the taking up of annual contributions in the churches for pastoral libraries; Therefore,

Resolved, That the General Association propose the establishment of a general pastoral library fund, as donations and legacies may be given for that purpose, to be under the control of their committee as trustees, and the Treasurer of the Miss. Soc. of Conn. being its treasurer.

Resolved, That it be recommended to the individual members of our churches and congregations to make donations and legacies to the parochial funds, or to establish independent library funds where there are no parochial funds, the interest of which shall annually be appropriated to the purchase of standard books for the use of their respective pastors.

Resolved, That it be recommended to the churches and religious societies to make annual appropriations from their income, or to adopt other systematic measures to raise contributions to found and make additions to their pastoral libraries.

Resolved, That it be recommended to the several ministers to present the subject of pastoral libraries to their people, as they may judge expedient, as thus endorsed by the General Association; and that they aid one another in this object by special addresses, and in their exchanges, as there may be occasion.
