Committee on correspondence with Nebraska.

A proposal from the General Association of Nebraska to open a fraternal correspondence with this body was referred to a committee consising of Rev. Messrs. George A. Calhoun, D.D., Abram Marsh and Joel Hawes, D.D.

Letter from Oregon read.

The committee appointed at the last meeting, to correspond with the Oregon Association, read a letter from a committee appointed by that body in which the continuance of our fraternal sympathies and fellowship is solicited.

Delegates from New Hampshire, Vermont and Massachusetts

heard.

Rev. Messrs. Bezaleel Smith, delegate from the General Association of New Hampshire; Levi H. Stone, from the General Convention of Vermont; and Daniel H. Babcock, from the General Association of Massachusetts, presented the salutations of those ecclesiastical bodies respectively.

Agents of Societies heard.

The order of the day for 4 o'clock was observed at the appointed time. Rev. Allen Hazen spoke in behalf of the A. B. C. F. Missions; Rev. Isaac P. Langworthy, in behalf of the American Congregational Union; Rev. Israel P. Warren, in behalf of the American Tract Society at Boston; Rev. L. B. Rockwood, in behalf of the American Tract Society at New York; and Rev. A. C. Washburn, in behalf of the American Bible Society.

Delegates from Foreign Bodies heard, and letters received.

After the disposal of the order of the day, the reports of delegates from foreign bodies were resumed. Rev. Messrs. Thomas Shepard, D.D., delegate from the Evangelical Consociation of Rhode Island; Joseph P. Thompson, D.D., from the General Association of New York; Jeremiah Porter, from the General Association of Illinois; and Roswell R. Snow, from the Presbyterian and Congregational Convention of Wisconsin, presented the salutations of those bodies respectively.

Letters were received from the delegates to this body appointed by the General Associations of Iowa and Minnesota, who were unable to be personally present, and were referred to the committee on the narrative of the state of religion.

Committee on coöperation of Congregationalists and Presbyterians in Home Missions.

Rev. Messrs. John P. Gulliver, Joel Hawes, D.D., George J. Tillotson, George Thacher and Timothy Atkinson, were appointed a committee to consider and report on the subject of the coöperation of Congregationalists and Presbyterians in the work of Home Missions.

MINUTES.

Nebraska received into correspondence.

[1859.

The committee to whom was referred the subject of correspondence with the General Association of Nebraska, reported in favor of the opening of the proposed correspondence. Their report was accepted and adopted. Rev. Reuben Gaylord then presented his credentials, and took his seat as a delegate from that body.

Times fixed for the hearing of committees.

Voted, That the report of the committee appointed last year upon a plan for the more thorough evangelization of the State, be made the order of the day to-morrow morning, at 10 o'clock.

Voted, That the report of the committee on the subject of divorce, appointed two years since, and reappointed at the last meeting, be made the order of the day at 9 o'clock, to-morrow morning.

The Treasurer reports and is re-appointed.

Rev. Austin Putnam, Treasurer of the Association, presented his report, which was accepted and ordered to be printed. (Report I.)

Rev. Austin Putnam was chosen Treasurer for the ensuing year.

Tax.

Voted, To lay a tax of 75 cents on all the acting members of the Associations for the ensuing year.

Voted, To adjourn until to-morrow morning at 9 o'clock.
The session was closed with prayer by Rev. Dr. Calhoun.

The Associational sermon.

Public religious services were attended in the evening, at a quarter before 8 o'clock, at the house of worship of the Second Congregational Church. Prayer was offered by Rev. T. D. Woolsey, D.D., and the Associational sermon preached by Rev. Enoch F. Burr, from Eph. 3: 10, "To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God."

Wednesday morning, 9 o'clock.-After the calling of the roll, prayer was offered by the Moderator. The minutes of the previous day were

read.

Divorce.

The order of the day came up for consideration. Rev. T. D. Woolsey, D.D., presented the report of the committee on divorce, which after a brief discussion was accepted and ordered to be printed. (Report II.)

Subject for concio ud clerum in 1860.

The committee appointed to designate a subject for the concio ad clerum in 1860, reported the following:-The design and nature of punishment under the divine government. The report was accepted and adopted.

Delegates to Foreign Bodies appointed.

The committee on nominations of delegates to foreign bodies made a report in part, which was accepted and adopted. (Report III.)

Coöperation of Congregationalists and Presbyterians in Home

Missions.

The committee on the coöperation of Congregationalists and Presbyterians in the work of Home Missions, presented their report. The report after discussion, was accepted and ordered to be printed. (Report IV.)

Statistical Secretary appointed.

Voted, That a Statistical Secretary be appointed, whose special duty it shall be to collect and arrange the statistics of the churches.

Rev. William H. Moore was appointed to this office for the year ensuing.

The Treasurer resigns his office, thanks are tendered him for his fidelity, and a successor is chosen.

Rev. Austin Putnam resigned his office as Treasurer of the Association. The resignation was accepted, and the thanks of the body were unanimously tendered to Mr. Putnam for his fidelity during the entire period for which he has served in this capacity.

Rev. William H. Moore was appointed Treasurer for the ensuing year.

The more thorough evangelization of the State.

The committee appointed at the last meeting to consider and report upon a plan for the more thorough evangelization of the State, presented their report through their chairman, Rev. John P. Gulliver, which was discussed, and laid upon the table to be taken up again for consideration this evening immediately after the reading of the report of the Directors of the Missionary Society of Connecticut Auxiliary to the A. H. M. Society.

The narrative of the state of religion.

The narrative of the state of religion was presented, accepted, ordered to be read in connection with the communion service in the afternoon, and to be printed. (Report V.)

Correspondents appointed.

Rev. Joel Hawes, D.D., was appointed to reply in behalf of the Association, to a letter received from the General Association of Kansas; and Rev. George Thacher, to reply to a letter received from the General Conference of Indiana.

Report of Trustees of Miss. Soc. of Conn.

The Trustees of the Missionary Society of Connecticut presented their report through their Secretary, Rev. Horace Hooker. The report was accepted and ordered to be printed. (Report VI.)

Report of committee on facts for the 150th anniversary.

Rev. E. W. Robinson presented the report of the committee appointed at the last meeting, on facts and statistics with reference to the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the Association,-which was read and referred to a committee consisting of Rev. Messrs. Jonathan Brace, D.D., and D. S. Brainerd.

Voted, To adjourn till after the communion service.

Communion.

Wednesday afternoon, half past two o'clock.-The Association united with the churches of Norwich in the celebration of the Lord's Supper,— in connection with which the narrative of the state of religion was read.

Officers of Miss. Soc. of Conn. appointed.

At the close of this service, business was resumed. Rev. Messrs. Joel Hawes, D.D., Mark Tucker, D.D., Timothy P. Gillett, Samuel Spring, D.D., Alvan Bond, D.D., and Myron N. Morris, and Hon. T. S. Williams, Hon. Seth Terry, Henry White, Esq., Edward Goodwin, Esq., George Kellogg, Esq., and Samuel S. Ward, Esq., were chosen by ballot, Trustees of the Missionary Society of Connecticut.

E. W. Parsons, Esq., was chosen Treasurer, and Rev. Horace Hooker, Auditor, of the Missionary Society of Connecticut.

Directors of Miss. Soc. of Corn. Aux. to A. H. M. S.

In addition to the above named Trustees, Rev. Messrs. L. B. Rockwood, W. B. Weed, L. Perrin, S. W. S. Dutton, D.D., and George J. Tillotson, and J. Barnes, Esq., were chosen Directors of the Missionary Society of Connecticut, Auxiliary to the Am. Home Miss. Society.

The Statistical Secretary, and a Committee on the Schedule. The following votes were passed :—

1. That the Statistical Secretary be empowered to appoint Collectors of statistics and taxes in the district Associations.

2. That the Statistical Secretary together with Rev. Messrs. Robert C. Learned and Samuel G. Willard be authorized to prepare a schedule of statistics for the coming year, and to make any further arrangments for the collection of statistics and taxes; and that all votes of the Association to the contrary be repealed.

Report of Trustees of copyright of Psalms and Hymns, and Trustees appointed.

The report of the Trustees of the copyright of the book of Psalms and Hymns was read, accepted and ordered to be printed. (Report VII.) Rev. Messrs. Jeremiah Day, D.D., E. T. Fitch, D.D., Joel Hawes, D.D., Leonard Bacon, D.D., and E. L. Cleveland, D.D., were appointed Trustees of the copyright of the book of Psalms and Hymns.

Report of Treasurer of Conn. Branch of Am. Education Society.

The report of Edw. Goodwin, Treasurer of the Connecticut Branch of the American Education Society for the past year, was laid before the body, accepted, and ordered to be printed. (Report VIII.)

Time set for hearing delegates from Foreign Bodies. Voted, That delegates from foreign bodies who have not yet reported, be heard to-morrow morning, between the hours of 8 and 9 o'clock. Schedule to be used at next meeting in appointing delegates to Foreign Bodies, and additional report of committee on delegates to Foreign Bodies.

The committee on delegates to foreign bodies, under instructions from the Association, prepared a revised schedule for the appointment of such delegates at the next annual meeting, which was accepted and ordered to be printed. (Report IX.)

The same committee made an additional report, with a view to supplying vacancies in our delegations to foreign bodies for the present year. The report was accepted and adopted. (Report III.)

Preacher of concio ad clerum.

Rev. Hiram P. Arms was appointed the preacher of the concio ad clerum, and Rev. Abel McEwen, D.D., his substitute.

Next annual meeting.

The next annual meeting was appointed to be held at Rockville, within the limits of Tolland Association, by invitation of the two Congregational churches in that place, on the third Tuesday in June, 1860.

Committee concerning a new edition of Congregational Order.

Rev. Messrs. Joel Hawes, D.D., Horace Hooker and W. H. Moore were appointed a committee to provide for the publication of a new edition of the Congregational Order, and to prepare a revision of the chapter on theDigest of Rules and Usages" in said book, and submit the same to the approval of the next meeting of the Association, with a view to the proposed publication.

Report on disposal of statistics and historical collections for 150th anniversary.

The following report, presented by Rev. Dr. Brace, was accepted and adopted :-The committee to whom were referred the collections of the committee on facts and statistics, to report what disposition should be made of the same, and of the historical discourse for the celebration; also to nominate a committee of publication, and present plans and estimates for accomplishing the work; report

That they recommend the putting of these collections and the historical discourse into a pamphlet, or a bound volume to those who prefer it, and nominate as a committee of publication and to complete the collections, Rev. Messrs. Leonard Bacon, D.D., S. W. S. Dutton, D.D., and E. W. Robinson; and, since the cost of publishing the same cannot now be correctly estimated, that this matter be left with the publishing committee in the hope that they will be able to devise some method of publication by which the sales of the work may defray the expense.
