What happens with cities when any position in them can be reached within a certain time span and with a specific means of transport? What does a place need when this goal is 2 hours, 1 hour or 5 minutes? How would the FiveMinutesCity be? Publication is the result of a forum and workshop for young architects organized by the Berlage Institute in collaboration with the Mies van der Rohe Foundation (Barcelona) and the Institut Francais d'Architecture (Paris). For this event, the second of a series of three within the framework of the GAUDI program, Winny Maas, architect and partner in MVRDV, was invited as the workshop master. The FiveMinutesCity is conceived by Maas. It is a narrative, squeezed in the format of a PowerPoint presentation with comic book flirtations. It starts with a series of projects by MVRDV and the Berlage Institute and continues with a report of the forum and workshop in Rotterdam. It concludes with a series of essays by the guest professors and lecturers.
