"It shall be the duty of every Minister, with such assistance as he can obtain from persons skilled in music, to give order concerning the tunes to be sung at any time in his church; and especially, it shall be his duty to suppress all light and unseemly music, and all indecency and irreverence in the performance, by which vain and ungodly persons profane the service of the Sanctuary."

HYMNS.

[8s. 75. 4.

I. THE CHRISTIAN YEAR.

ADVENT.

1 "Behold, he cometh with clouds, and every
eye shall see him."

O, he comes, with clouds descending,
Once for favour'd sinners slain;
Thousand thousand saints attending
Swell the triumph of his train;
Hallelujah!

God appears on earth to reign.

2 Every eye shall now behold him,
Robed in dreadful majesty;

Those who set at nought and sold him,
Pierced, and nail'd him to the tree,

Deeply wailing,

Shall the true Messiah see.

2

3 Every island, sea, and mountain,

Heaven and earth, shall flee away:
All who hate him must, confounded,
Hear the trump proclaim the day;
Come to judgment,

Come to judgment, come away.

4 Now redemption, long expected,
See in solemn pomp appear:
All his saints, by men rejected,
Now shall meet him in the air:
Hallelujah!

See the day of God appear.

5 Yea, Amen; let all adore thee,
High on thine eternal throne:
Saviour, take the power and glory;
Claim the kingdom for thine own.
O come quickly!

Hallelujah! Come, Lord, come!

THE

"He cometh to judge the earth.”

[L. M.

HE Lord will come: the earth shall quake,
The hills their fixèd seat forsake;
And, withering from the vault of night,
The stars withdraw their feeble light.

2 The Lord will come: but not the same
As once in lowly form he came,

A silent Lamb to slaughter led,

The bruised, the suffering, and the dead.
