INTRODUCTION The Federal Technology Transfer Act of 1986 has provided new incentives for both Federal scientists and industrial companies to participate in Cooperative Research and Development Agreements (CRADAS), and thus facilitate the transfer of technology from the Federal laboratory into public use by product commercialization. Industrial companies can now obtain an exclusive license to use patented inventions developed under a CRADA, particularly in view of the resources contributed to the CRADA by the company. The NIH/ADAMHA-Industry Collaboration Forum provides a means for industrial representatives and Federal scientists to contact one another and identify areas of mutual collaborative interest which might result in a CRADA.
