The object of this work is to facilitate the acquisition of knowledge on this subject; to point out the nature of the more aggravated offences against public peace; to explain powers entrusted to magistrates for their supression; and also to state the rights and duties of members of the community as private individuals, or as belonging to the military force, or invested with the temporary office of special constables.
