law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith. Phil. iii. 9. Even the righteousness of God, which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all, and upon all them that believe. Rom. iii. 22. But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above.) Rom. x. 6.

Rests only on God's word. So then, faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Rom. x. 17. And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way. John iv. 50. And now, O Lord God: thou art that God, and thy words be true, and thou hast promised this goodness unto thy servant. Therefore now let it please thee to bless the house of thy servant, that it may continue for ever before thee: for thou, O Lord God, hast spoken it. 2 Sam. vii. 28, 29. And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord, doth man live. Deu. viii. 3. And the people rested themselves upon the words of Hezekiah king of Judah. 2 Chr. xxxii. 8. And thou saidst, I will surely do thee good, and make thy seed as the sand of the sea. Gen. xxxii. 12.

Results of. Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. Isaiah xxvi. 3. If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. Jo. xv. 7. And this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He heareth us. And if we know that He hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of Him. 1 Jo. v. 14, 15. This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom He hath sent. Jo. vi. 29. What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them. Mar. xi. 24. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine: no more can ye, except ye abide in me. Jo. xv. 4. He that abideth in

me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit. Jo. xv. 5. If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. Jo. xv. 7. Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward. Heb. x. 35. If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth. Mar. ix. 23. They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. Isaiah xl. 31. And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart. Jer. xxix. 13. We are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end. Heb. iii. 14. We which have believed do enter into rest. Heb. iv. 3. Trust in the Lord and do good; so shall thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. Ps. xxxvii. 3. Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass. Ps. xxxvii. 5. Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee. Ps. lv. 22. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Pro. iii. 6. Believe in the Lord your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper. 2 Chro. xx. 20. If ye will not believe, surely ye shall not be established. Isaiah vii. 9. The Lord is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him. Lam. iii. 24. Rest of. For we which have believed do enter into rest. Heb. iv. 3. They have forgotten their resting-place. Jer. 1. 6. Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee. Isa. xxvi. 3. This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest. Isa. xxviii. 12. For ye are not as yet come to the rest and to the inheritance which the Lord your God giveth you. Deu. xii. 9.

We receive according to. Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith, be it unto you. Matt. ix. 29. And as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. Matt. viii. 13. What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them. Mar. xi. 24. Let thy mercy, O Lord, be upon us, according as we hope in thee. Ps. xxxiii. 22.

We live by. But the just shall live by his faith. Hab. ii. 4. But by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord, doth man live. Deu. viii. 3. And the life which I now live in the flesh, I live by the faith of the Son of God. Gal. ii. 20.

We stand by. For by faith ye stand. 2 Cor. i. 24. Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Rom. xi. 20.

We walk by. (For we walk by faith, not by sight.) 2 Cor. v. 7. For we are saved by hope. Rom. viii. 24.

As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him. Col. ii. 6.

We are justified by. Therefore we conclude, that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law. Rom. iii. 28. Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God, through our Lord Jesus Christ. Rom. v. 1. But by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ. Gal. ii. 16. Wherefore the law was our school-master to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. Gal. iii. 24.

We are sanctified by. And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith. Acts xv. 9. That they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me. Acts xxvi. 18. Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you. John xv. 3. Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. John xvii. 17. For by grace are ye saved, through faith. Eph. ii. 8. That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word. Eph. v. 26.

We are kept from sinning by. Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation. 1 Peter i. 5. Because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Rom. xi. 20. (For we walk by faith, not by sight.) 2 Cor. v. 7. For I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day. 2 Tim. i. 12.

Fear of God-Is commanded. Pass the time of your sojourning here in fear. 1 Peter i. 17. Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. Phil. ii. 12. Perfecting holiness in the fear of God. 2 Cor. vii. 1. Submitting yourself one to another in the fear of God. Eph. v. 21. Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Ps. ii. 11.

Fear of God-blessings of. Behold, the eye of the Lord is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy. Ps. xxxiii. 18. But he honoureth them that fear the Lord. Ps. xv. 4. He will bless them that fear the Lord, both small and great. Ps. cxv. 13.

Fear of God-Our Enemies Weakness. I will send

my fear before thee, and will destroy all the people to whom thou shalt come, and I will make all thine enemies turn their backs unto thee. Exodus xxiii. 27. The people shall hear, and be afraid sorrow shall take hold on the inhabitants of Palestina. Ex. xv. 14. Fear and dread shall fall upon them; by the greatness of thine arm they shall be as still as a stone; till thy people pass over, O Lord, till the people pass over, which thou hast purchased. Exodus xv. 16. This day will I begin to put the dread of thee, and the fear of thee, upon the nations that are under the whole heaven, who shall hear report of thee, and shall tremble, and be in anguish because of thee. Deu. ii. 25. There shall no man be able to stand before you for the Lord your God shall lay the fear of you, and the dread of you upon all the land that ye shall tread upon, as he hath said unto you. Deu. xi. 25. I know that the Lord hath given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you. Josh. ii. 9.

That I

Fellowship with Christ's sufferings. may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death. Phil. iii. 10. Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ, were baptized into his death? Rom. vi. 3. Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body. 2 Cor. iv. 10. Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourself likewise with the same mind. 1 Peter iv. 1. But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings. 1 Pet. iv. 13.

But if from thence

Finding God-When we can. thou shalt seek the Lord thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart, and with all thy soul. Deut. iv. 29. I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me. Prov. viii. 17. And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart. Jer. xxix. 13.
