Sovreignty of God. I have made the earth, the man and the beast that are upon the ground, by my great power and by my outstretched arm, and have given it unto whom it seemed meet unto me. Jer. xxvii. 5. The Most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will. Danl. iv. 25. I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the Lord before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy. Ex. xxxiii. 19. Jesus came, and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Matt. xxviii. 18. But all these worketh that one and the self-same Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will. 1 Cor. xii. 11. I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. Ro. ix. 15.

Sovreignty of God's Mercy. The Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee. Gen. xii. 1. Many widows were in Israel in the days of Elias, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when great famine was throughout all the land: But unto none of them was Elias sent, save unto Sarepta, a city of Sidon, unto a woman that was a widow. And many lepers were in Israel in the time of Eliseus the prophet; and none of them was cleansed, saving Naaman the Syrian. Lu. iv. 25, 26, 27. Therefore hath he mercy on whom he will have mercy, and whom he will he hardeneth. Ro. ix. 18. Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus? Ro. ix. 20.

Sonship-When, and How received. As many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name. Jo, i. Ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we

cry, Abba, Father. Ro. viii. 15. Behold what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God! therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew Him not. 1 Jo. iii. 1. Because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. Gal. iv. 6. After that ye believed, ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise. Eph. i. 13.

Sonship-Is Evidenced By Patient Endurance. And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also; knowing that tribulation worketh patience. Ro. v. iii. Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer. Ro. xii. 12. After he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise. Heb. vi. 15. For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffetted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently ? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God. 1 Pet. ii. 20.

Spiritual Sacrifices. I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of the Lord. Ps. cxvi. 17. Let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare his works with rejoicing. Ps. cvii. 22. By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to his name. But to do good, and to communicate, forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased. Heb. xiii. 15, 16. Receive us graciously: so will we render the calves of our lips. Hos. xiv. 2. Offer unto God thanksgiving; and pay thy vows unto the most High. Ps. 1. 14. Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I shew the salvation of God. Ps. 1. 23. Of them that shall bring the sacrifice of praise into the house of the Lord. Jer. xxxiii. 11. I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. Ro. xii. 1. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you. 2 Cor. vi. 17. To offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. 1 Pet. ii. 5.

Speech-Carefulness of. Let your speech be always

with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man. Col. iv. 6. Be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear. 1 Pet. iii. 15. Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. Eph. iv. 29.

Spirits-Are To Be Tried. Believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh, is of God. 1 Jo. iv. 1, 2. We are of God. He that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God, heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error. 1 Jo. iv. 6. To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them. Is. viii. 20.

Specific Answers To Prayer, Asked and Granted. Whereby shall I know that I shall inherit it? Gen. xv. 8. Let it come to pass, that the damsel to whom I shall say, Let down thy pitcher, I pray thee, that I may drink; and she shall say, Drink, and I will give thy camels drink also let the same be she that thou hast appointed for thy servant Isaac; and thereby shall I know that thou hast shewed kindness unto my master. Gen. xxiv. 14. Shew me a sign that thou talkest with me. Jud. vi. 17. Behold, I will put a fleece of wool in the floor: and if the dew be on the fleece only, and it be dry upon all the earth besides, then shall I know that thou wilt save Israel by my hand, as thou hast said. Jud. vi. 37. Hezekiah said unto Isaiah, What shall be the sign that the Lord will heal me, and that I shall go up into the house of the Lord the third day? 2 K. xx. 8. Strength of the Christian, In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength. Is. xxx. 15. Their strength is to sit still. Is. xxx. 7. My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. 2 Cor. xii. 9. Thy

God hath commanded thy strength: strengthen, O God, that which thou hast wrought for us. Ps. lxviii. 28. The joy of the Lord is your strength. Ne. viii. 10. Be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Eph. vi. 10. Let him take hold of my strength, that he may make peace with me; and he shall make peace with me. Is. xxvii, 5.

Steadfastness of Purpose.

Whose spirit was

not steadfast with God. Ps. lxxviii. 8. Neither were they steadfast in his covenaut. Ps. lxxviii. 37. His heart is fixed, trusting in the Lord. Ps. cxii. 7. My heart is fixed, O God, my heart is fixed. Ps. lvii. 7. Howbeit, the high places were not taken away for as yet the people had not prepared their hearts unto the God of their fathers. 2 Chron. xx. 33.

Strong-How We Can Be. Be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Eph. vi. 10. Let him take hold of my strength, that he may make peace with me, and he shall make peace with me. Is. xxvii. 5. In me is thine help. Hos. xiii. 9. Be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. 2 Tim. ii. 1.

Strengthening Grace. Thy God hath commanded thy strength: strengthen, O God, that which thou hast wrought for us. Ps. lxviii. 28. The Lord will perfect that which concerneth me. Ps. cxxxviii. 8. He which hath begun a good work in you, will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ. Phil. i. 6.

Strong Meat and Milk. For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. For every one that useth milk, is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil. Heb. v. 12, 13, 14. I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able. 1 Cor. iii. 2.

Submission, I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. Phil. iv. 11. For ye had compassion of me in my bonds, and took joyfully the spoiling of your goods, knowing in yourselves that ye have in heaven

a better and an enduring substance. Heb. x. 34. For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise. Heb. x. 36. Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment ? Mat. vi. 25. The Most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men. Da. iv. 17.
