SAMUEL WEBBE, sen., 1792.

Amen.

"His compassions fail not; they are new every morning."-Lam. iii. 22, 23.

1 NEW every morning is the love

Our wakening and uprising prove;
Through sleep and darkness safely brought,
Restored to life, and power, and thought.

2 New mercies, each returning day,
Hover around us while we pray;
New perils past, new sins forgiven,

New thoughts of God, new hopes of heaven..

3 If on our daily course our mind

Be set to hallow all we find,

New treasures still, of countless price,
God will provide for sacrifice.

4 Old friends, old scenes, will lovelier be,
As more of heaven in each we see;
Some softening gleam of love and prayer
Shall dawn on every cross and care.

5 The trivial round, the common task,
Will furnish all we need to ask,
Room to deny ourselves, a road
To bring us daily nearer God.

6 Only, O Lord, in Thy dear love,
Fit us for perfect rest above;
And help us, this and every day,
To live more nearly as we pray. Amen.

1. Now that the daylight fills the sky, Lift we our hearts to God on high. That He, in all we do or say, Would keep us free from harm to-day.

Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray and cry aloud."-Ps. lv. 17.

GERMAN.

Amen.

1 Up to the throne of God is borne
The voice of praise at early morn,
And He accepts the punctual hymn
Sung as the light of day grows dim,

a Nor will He turn His ear aside

From holy offerings at noontide;
Then here to Him our souls we raise
In songs of gratitude and praise.

3 Blest are the moments, doubly blest,
That, drawn from this one hour of rest,
Are with a ready heart bestowed
Upon the service of our God!

4 Look up to heaven! The unwearied sun
Already half his race hath run;
He cannot halt nor go astray,
But our immortal spirits may.

5 Lord! since his rising in the East
If we have faltered or transgressed,
Guide, from Thy love's abundant source,
What yet remains of this day's course.

6 Help with Thy grace, through life's short day, Our upward and our downward way:

cres. And glorify for us the West,

dim. When we shall sink to final rest. Amen.
