sa'ying, 3 Bles'sed 'are' the po'or in spirit: for theirs is the kin'gdom of heaven. 4 Bles'sed are' they that mo'urn: for they shall be comforted. 5 Bles'sed are' the me'ek: for they shall inherit the earth. 6 Bles'sed are' they which do hun'ger and thirst after right'eousness: for they shall be filled. 7 Bles'sed 'are' the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. Bles'sed are' the pu're in hea'rt for they shall see Go'd. 9 Bles'sed are the pe'ace-makers: for they shall be called the children of Go'd. 10 Bles'sed 'are' they which are per'secuted for right'eousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11 Bles'sed are ye, when 'men' shall revi'le you, and per'secute you,' and shall say a'll man'ner of e'vil against you falsely, for my sakę. 12 Rejoice, and be exce'eding glad; for grea't 'is' your rewa'rd in heaven: for so per'secuted they the proph'ets which were befo're you.

13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his sa'vour, wherewith' shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good' for nothing, but to be cast' out, and to be trodden un'der foot' of men. 14 Ye are the light of the world. city that is set on an hill can'not be hid. 15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it un'der a bush'el, but on a can'dlestick; and it giv'eth light un'to a'll that are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine befo're men, that they may see your good' works, and glo'rify your Father which is in heaven.

17 Think not that I am come to destroy' the law or the proph'ets: I am not come to destroy', but to fulfil'. 18 For ver'ily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass', one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till a'll be fulfilled. 19 Whosoever therefore shall brea'k one of these least commandments, and shall te'ach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoev'er shall do and teach them,' the sa'me shall be called grea't in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For I say un'to you, That except your right'eousness shall exce'ed 'the right'eousness' of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter in'to the kingdom of heaven.

21 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and, whosoever shall kill, shall be in danger of the judg'ment: 22 But I say un'to you, That whosoever is an'gry with his broth'er without' a cause shall be in danger of the judgment; and whosoever shall say to

his broth'er, Ra'ca, shall be in danger of the coun'cil; but whosoever shall say, Thou fo'ol, shall be in danger of hellfire. 23 Therefore, if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and the're remem'berest that thy broth'er hath o'ught against thee; 24 Le'ave there thy gift befo're the altar, and go thy way; first be rec'onciled to thy broth'er, and then come and offer thy gift. 25 Agre'e with thine ad'versary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the ad'versary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliv'er thee to the officer, and thou be cast' in'to prison. 26 Ver'ily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast pa'id the ut'termost farthing.

27 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit' adultery: 28 But I say un'to you, That whosoever look'eth on a woman to lust after her, hath commit'ted adultery with her alread'y in his heart. 29 And if thy right eye offend' thee, pluck it out, and cast' 'it' from thee for it is prof'itable for thee that one of thy mem'bers should per'ish, and not that' thy whole body should be cast' in'to hell. 30 And if thy right hand offend' thee, cut it off, and cast' 'it' from thee: for it is prof'itable for thee that one of thy members should per'ish, and not "that' thy whole bod'y should be cast' in'to hell. 31 It hath been said, Whosoev'er shall put' awa'y his wife, let him give her a wri'ting of divoʻrcement : 32 But I say un'tọ you, That whosoever shall put' awa'y his wife, sa'ving for the cause of fornica'tion, ca'useth her to commit' adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divo'rced commit'teth adultery.

33 Again', ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswea'r thyself', but shalt perform un'to the Lo'rd thine o'aths: 34 But I say un'to you, Swea'r not at all: ne'ither by heaven; for it is Go'd's thronę: 35 Nor by the earth; for it is his foot'stool: ne'ither by Jeru'salem; for it is the city of the grea't King. Neither shalt thou swea'r by thy head; because thou canst not make one hair white or black: 37 But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoev'er is more than these com'eth of e'vil.

38 Ye We have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: 39 But I say un'to you, That ye resist not evil; but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right check, turn to him the oth'er also. 40 And if

an'y man will sue thee at the law, and take awa'y thy co'at, let him have thy clo'ak also. 41 And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twa'jn. 42 Give to him that ask'eth thee; and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou awa'y.

43 Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and ha'te thine en'emy: 44 But I say un'to you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good' to them that ha'te you, and pray for them which despit'efully use you, and per'secute you; 45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he ma'keth his sun to rise on the e'vil and on the good', and sen'dẹth ra'in on the just and on the un'just. 46 For if ye love them which love you, what rewa'rd have ye? dọ nọt e'ven the publicans the same? 47 And if ye salute your breth'ren o'nly, what do ye more than oth'ers?' do not e'ven the publicans so? 48 Be ye ther'efore per'fect, e'ven as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

CHAP. VI. Take he'ed that ye do not your a'lms befo're men, to be se'en of them; otherwise ye have no rewa'rd of your Father which is in heaven. Therefore, when thou do'est thine a'lms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hyp'ocrites do in the syn'agogues and in the streets, that they may have glo'ry of men. Ver'ily I say un'to you, They have their reward. 3 But when thou do'est a'lms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand do'eth: 4 That thine a'lms may be in se'cret: and thy Father, which se'eth in se'cret, himself' shall rewa'rd thee o'penly.

5 And when thou pra'yest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are:' for they love to pray stan'ding in the syn'agogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Ver'ily I say un'to you, They have their reward. 6 But thou, when thou pra'yest, en'ter in'to thy closet; and, when thou hast shut thy do'or, pray to thy Father which is in se'cret; and thy Father, which se'eth in se'cret, shall reward thee o'penly. 7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetit'ions, as the heathen 'do' for they think that they shall be heard for their much spe'aking. 8 Be not ye therefore like un'to them for your Father kno'weth what things ye have ne'ed of befo're ye ask him. After this man'ner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hal'lowed be thy

name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as 'it is' in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debt'ors. 13 And lead us not in'to tempta'tion; but deliv'er us from e'vil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glo'ry, for ev'er. A'men'.

14 For if ye forgive men their tres'passes, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: 15 But if ye forgiv'e not men their tres passes, neither will your Father forgive your tres'passes.

16 Moreover, when ye fast', be not, as the hyp'ocrites, of a sad coun'tenance; for they disfigure their fa'ces, that they may appear un'to men to fast'. Ver'ily I say un'to you, They have their rewa'rd. 17 But thou, when thou fas'test, anoint' thine head, and wash' thy fa'ce; 18 That thou appear not un'to men to fast', but un'to thy Father which is in se'cret; and thy Father, which sc'eth in se'cret, shall reward thee o'penly.

19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon' earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt', and where thie'ves brea'k through and ste'al: 20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt', and where thie'ves do not break through nor ste'al: 21 For where your treas'ure is, there will your heart be also.

22 The light of the body is the eye: if ther'efore thine eye be single, thy whole bod'y shall be full of light. 23 But if thine eye be e'vil, thy whole bod'y shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how grea't 'is' that darkness!

24 No man can serve two mas'ters: for either he will ha'te the one, and love the oth'er; or else he will hold to the one, and despi'se the oth'er. Ye can'not serve Go'd and mam'mon. 25 Therefore I say un'to you, Ta'ke no thought for your life, what' ye shall e'at, or what' ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what' ye shall put' on. Is not the life more than me'at, and the body than ra'jment? 26 Behold the fowls of the air for they sow not, neither do they re'ap, nor gath'er in'to ba'rns; yet your heavenly Father fe'edeth them. Are ye not much bet'ter than they? 27 Which of you, by ta'king tho'ught, can add one cubit un'to his stat'ure? 28 And why take ye thought for ra'iment? Consid'er the lil'ies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: 29 And yet I

say un'to you, That 'e'ven' Sol'omon, in all his glory, was not arrayed like one of these. 30 Wherefore, if Go'd so clothe the gras's of the field, which to-da'y is, and to-morrow is cast' in'to the oven, shall he' not much mo're 'clo'the' you, O ye of little faith? 31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What' shall we e'at? or, What' shall we drink? or, Wherewitha'l shall we be clo'thed? 32 (For after all these things do the Gen'tiles se'ek); for your heavenly Father kno'weth that ye have ne'ed of all these things. 33 But se'ek ye first the kingdom of Go'd, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be ad'ded un'to you. 34 Ta'ke therefore no thought for the mor'row: for the morrow shall ta'ke thought for the things of itself'. Sufficient un'to the day 'is' the e'vil thereof'.

CHAP. VII.— Judge not, that ye be not judged. 2 For with what judg'ment je judge, ye shall be judged; and with what measure ye me'te, it shall be measured to you again. And why beho'ldest thou the mo'te that is in thy brother's eye, but consid'erest not the be'am that is in thine own eye? Or how wilt thou say to thy broth'er, Let me pull out the mo'te out of thi'ne eye; and, behoʻld, a beam is in thine o'wn eye? 5 Thou hypocrite, first cast' out the be'am out of thine o'wn eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mo'te out of thy broth'er's eye.

Give not that which is ho'lý un'to the dogs, neither cast' ye your pearls befo're swi'ne, lest they trample them un'der their feet, and turn again' and rend you.

7 Ask, and it shall be given you; se'ek, and ye shall fi'nd; knock, and it shall be opened un'to you: For ev'ery one that ask'eth, rece'iveth; and he that seeketh, fi'ndeth; and to him that knoc'keth, it shall be o'pened. 9 Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask' bread, will he give him a sto'ne? 10 Or if he ask' a fish, will he give him a serpent? If ye then, be'ing e'vil, know how to give good gifts un'to your children, how much mo're shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him? 12 Therefore all things whatsoever ye would' that men should do to you, do ye e'vẹn so tọ them for this is the law and the prophets.

13 En'ter ye in at the stra'it ga'te: for wide 'is' the ga'te, and bro'ad 'is' the way, that le'adeth to destruction, and man'y there be which go in thereat': 14 Because stra'jt ‘iş'
