CHAP. IV. Belov'ed, belie've not ev'ery spir'it, but try' the spirits whether they are of Go'd; because man'y false prophets are gone out' in'to the world. 2 Hereby' know ye the Spirit of Go'd: Ev'ery spirit that confess'eth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh' is of Go'd: 3 And ev'ery spirit that confess'eth not' that Jesus Chri'st is come in the flesh' is not' of Go'd: and this' is that 'spir'it' of antichrist, whereof' ye have heard' that it should com'e; and e'ven now alread'y is it in the world'. 4 Ye' are of Go'd, little chil'dren, and have overcom'e them; because grea'ter is he' that is in yo'u, than he' that is in the world'. 5 They are of the world'; therefore spe'ak they of the world', and the world he'areth them. 6 We' are of Go'd: he that kno'weth Go'd he'areth us; he that is not' of Go'd he'areth not' us. Hereby kno'w we the spir'it of truth, and the spirit of error. 7 Belov'ed, let us love one anoth'er: fo'r love is of Go'd; and every one that lov'eth is bo'rn of Go'd, and kno'weth Go'd. He that loveth not kno'weth not Go'd; fo'r Go'd is love. 9 In this' was man'ifested the love of Go'd to'ward us, because that Go'd sent his o'nly begot'ten Son' in'to the world', that we' might live through him'. 10 Herein' is love, not' that we' loved Go'd, but that he' loved us', and sent his Son' to be the propitia'tion for our sin's. 11 Beloved, if Go'd so' loved us', we' ought also to love one another. 12 No' man hath se'en Go'd at an'y time. If we love one anoth'er, Go'd dwell'eth in us, and his love is per'fected in us. 13 Hereby' kno'w we that we' dwell in him', and he' in us', because he hath giv'en us of his Spirit. 14 And we have seen, and do testify, that the Father sent the Son' 'to be' the Saviour of the world'. 15 Whosoev'er shall confess' that Je'sus is the Son of Go'd, Go'd dwell'eth in him', and he' in Go'd. 16 And we have kno'wn and belie'ved the love that Go'd hath to us'. Go'd is love; and he that dwell'eth in lov'e dwell'eth in Go'd, and Go'd in him'. 17 Herein' is our love made perfect, that we may have bo'ldness in the day of judg'ment because as he' is, so are we' in this world. There is no fear in love; but perfect love cas'teth out' fe'ar: beca'use fear hath to'rment. He that fe'areth is not' made perfect in love. 19 We' love him', because he' first loved us'. 20 If a man say, I love Go'd, and ha'teth his brother, he is a liar fo'r he' that loveth not his broth'er whom he hath' seen, how can he love Go'd whom he hath not' seen?

21 And this command'ment have we from him', That he who lov'eth Go'd love his broth'er also.

CHAP. V. Whosoev'er belie'veth that Je'sus is the Chri'st is bo'rn of Go'd: and ev'ery one that lov'eth him that begat', lov'eth him' also that is begot'ten of him. 2 By this' we know that we lov'e the children of Go'd, when we love Go'd, and ke'ep his command'ments. 3 Fo'r this' is the love of Go'd, that we keep his commandments: and his' command'ments are not grie'vous. 4 Fo'r whatsoev'er is bo'rn of Go'd overcom'eth the world' and this' is the vic'tory that overcom'eth the world', 'e'ven' our fa'ith. 5 W'họ is he' that overcom'eth the world, but he' that believeth that Jesus is the Son of Go'd? 6 This' is he' that ca'me by wa'ter and blood', 'e'ven' Je'sus Chri'st; not' by wa'ter o'nly, but by wa'ter and blood' and it is the Spirit that bea'reth wit'ness, beca'use the Spir'it is tru'th. 7 Fo'r there are three that bea'r record in heav'en, the Father, the Word', and the Holy Gho'st: and these thre'e are on'e. 8 And there are three that bea'r wit'ness in earth', the spirit, and the water, and the blood': and these three agre'e in one. 9 If we receive the wit'ness of men', the wit'ness of Go'd is grea'ter: fo'r this' is the wit'ness of Go'd which he hath tes'tified of his Son'. 10 He that belie'veth on the Son' of Go'd hath the wit'ness in himself': he that believeth not Go'd hath made him' a li'ar; beca'use he belie'veth not the record that Go'd gave of his Son'. 11 And this is the rec'ord, that Go'd hath given to us eternal life; and this life is in his Son'. 12 He that hath the Son' hath life; and' he that hath not' the Sọn of Go'd hath not' life. 13 The'se things have I writ'ten un'to yo'u that belie've on the na'me of the Son of Go'd, that ye may know that ye have eter'nal life, and that ye may belie've on the name of the Son of Go'd. 14 And this' is the con'fidence that we hav'e in him, that, if we ask' an'y thing according to his will', he he'areth us. 15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him. 16 If an'y mạn se'e his broth'er sin' a sin which is' not' un'to death', he shall ask', and he shall give him li'fe for them' that sin' not un'to death'. There is a sin un'to death: I do not sa'y that he shall pra'y for it'. 17 A'll unright'cousness is sin': and there is a sin not' un'to death. 18 We know that

6

whosoever is bo'rn of Go'd sin'neth not: but he that is begotten of Go'd ke'epeth himself', and that wick'ed one touch'eth him not. 19 And we know that we' are of Go'd, and the whole world' l'eth in wick'edness. 20 And

we know that the Son of Go'd is com'e, and hath given us an understan'ding, that we may know him' that is true; and we' are in' him that is true, 'e'ven' in his Son' Je'sus Chri'st. This is the true Go'd, and eternal life. 21 Little children, ke'ep yourselves from i'dols. A'men'.

1 THE elder un'to the elect' la'dy and her children, whom I love in the truth and not I' o'nly, but also all they that have kno'wn the tru'th; 2 For the tru'th's sake, which dwell'eth in us, and shall be with us for ev'er: 3 Gra'ce be with' you, mer'cy, 'and' pe'ace, from Go'd the Father, and from the Lo'rd Je'sus Chri'st, the Son' of the Father, in truth and love. I rejoi'ced grea'tly that I found of thy chil'dren wa'lking in tru'th, as we have received a command'ment from the Fa'ther. And now I beseech thee, la'dy, not' as though I wrote a new' command'ment unto thee, but that' which we had' from the begin'ning, that we love one anoth'er. 6 And this' is love, that we walk af'ter his command'ments. This' is the command'ment, That, as ye have heard' from the begin'ning, ye should walk in it. 7 Fo'r man'y dece'ivers are en'tered in'to the world, who confess' not that Jesus Chri'st is come in the flesh'. This' is a dece'iver and an an'tichrist. 8 Look' to yourselves, that we lo'se not those things which we have wro'ught, but that we receive a full' reward. 9 Whosoever transgress'eth, and abi'deth not in the doc'trine of Chri'st, hath not Go'd. He that abi'deth in the doc'trine of Chri'st, he' hath both the Father and the Son'. 10 If there come an'y un'to you, and brin'g not this doc'trine, receive him not in'to your' house, ne'ither bid him Go'd spe'ed: 11 Fo'r he that bid'deth him Go'd spe'ed is partaker of his

e'vil de'eds. 12 Having man'y things to wri'te un'to you, I would' not 'write' with pa'per and ink'; but I trust to com'e un'to you, and spe'ak fa'ce to face, that our joy' may be full'. 13 The children of thy elect' sister gre'et thee. A'men'.

THE THIRD EPISTLE OF

JOHN.

1 THE el'der un'to the well-belov'ed Ga'ius, whom I love in the truth. 2 Belov'ed, I wish abov'e a'll things that thou mayest pros'per and be in health', e'ven as thy so'ul pros'pereth. 3 Fo'r I rejoiced grea'tly when the breth'ren ca'me and tes'tified of the truth that is in thee, e'ven as thou walkest in the truth. 4 I have no grea'ter joy' than to hear that my chil'dren walk in tru'th. 5 Belov'ed, thou do'est faithfully whatsoev'er thou do'est to the brethren, and to strangers; 6 Which have bo'rne wit'ness of thy charity befo're the church'; whom if thou bring fo'rward on their journey after a godly sort, thou shalt do well': 7 Because that for his na'me's sa'ke they went fo'rth, ta'king nothing of the Gen'tiles. 8 We therefore ought to receive such, that we might be fellow-hel'pers to the truth. 9 I wro'te un'to the church': but Diot'rephes, who lov'eth to have the pre-eminence among them, rece'iveth us not. 10 Wherefore, if I com'e, I will remem'ber his de'eds which he doeth, pra'ting against' us with malic'ious words: and not content' therewith', ne'ither doth he himself' receive the breth'ren, and forbid'deth them that would', and cast'eth them' out' of the church'. Belov'ed, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good'. He that do'eth good' is of Go'd: but he that do'eth e'vil hath not se'en Go'd. 12 Deme'trius hath good' repo'rt of a'll ‘men,' and of the truth itself': yea', and we' 'a'lso' bea'r rec'ord; and ye' know that our rec'ord is true. I had man'y things to wri'te, but I will not with ink' and pen' write un'to thee: 14 But I trust I shall sho'rtly se'e thee, and we shall spe'ak fa'ce to face. Peace 'be' to thee. Our friend's salu'te thee. Gre'et the friend's by na'mę.

THE GENERAL EPISTLE OF

JUDE.

1JU'DE, the servant of Jesus Chri'st, and broth ́er of Ja'mes, to them that are sanc'tified by Go'd the Father, and preserved in Je'sus Chri'st, and' called: 2 Mer'cy

un'to you, and peace, and lov'e, be multiplied. 3 Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write un'to you of the com'mon salva'tion, it was ne'edful for me to wri'te un'to you, and exho'rt you,' that ye should earnestly contend' for the faith which was onc'e deliv'ered un'to the sa'ints. 4 For there are certain men crept in un'awares, whọ were befo're of old ordained to this condemna'tion; ungodly men, tur'ning the gra'ce of our Go'd in'to lasciv'iousness, and deny'ing the o'nly Lo'rd Go'd, and our Lo'rd Je'sus Chri'st. 5 I will therefore put you in remem'brance, though ye once knew this, how that the Lo'rd, hav'ing saved the people out of the land of Egypt, af'terward destroy'ed them that belie'ved not. 6 And the angels which kept not their first' esta'te, but left their o'wn habi̟ta'tion, he hath reserved in everlasting cha'ins, un'der darkness, un'to the judgment of the grea't day. 7 E'ven as Sodom and Gomor'rha, and the cit'ies about' them, in like man'ner, giving themselves o'ver to fornica'tion, and goʻing af'ter stra'nge flesh', are set fo'rth for an exam'ple, suf'fering the vengeance of eternal fi're. Likewise also these filthy dreamers defi'le the flesh', despi'se domin'ion, and spe'ak evil of dig'nities. 9 Yet Mi'chael the archangel, when conten'ding with the dev'il, (he dispu'ted about' the bod'y of Mo'ses,) durst not bring against him a ra'iling accusation, but said, The Lo'rd rebu'ke thee. 10 But the'se speak e'vil of tho'se things which they know not but what they know nat'urally, as bru'te be'asts, in tho'se things they corrupt themselves. Wo'e un'to them! fo'r they have gone in the way of Ca'in, and ran gre'edily after the error of Balaam for reward, and per'ished in the gainsa'ying of Co're. 12 These are spot's in your fe'asts of charity, when they feast with you, fe'eding themselves without fear cloud's they are without wa'ter, car'ried about' of wind's; tre'es whose fru'it with'ereth, without
