have you to be ignorant, breth'ren, concer'ning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, e'ven as others which have no ho'pe. 14 Fo'r if we believe that Jesus di'ed, and ro'ṣe again', e'ven so' them' a'lso which sleep in Je'sus will Go'd bring with him. 15 Fo'r this' we say un'to you by the word of the Lo'rd, that we' which are ali've 'and' rema'in un'to the com'ing of the Lo'rd, shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself' shall descend' from heav'en with a shout', with the voice of the archa'ngel, and with the trump of Go'd: and the dead' in Chri'st shall ri'se first' 17 Then we' which are alive and rema'in shall be ca'ught up togeth'er with them in the cloud's, to me'et the Lo'rd in the air: and so' shall we ever be with the Lo'rd. 18 Wher'efore com'fort one anoth'er with these word's.

CHAP. V.—1 But of the times and the se'asons, breth'rẹn, ye hạvẹ no ne'ed that I write un'to you. 2 Fo'r yourselves kno'w per'fectly, that the day of the Lo'rd so com'eth as a thie'f in the night'. 3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety, then sud'den destruc'tion com'eth upon' them, as trav'ail upon a woman with chi'ld; and they shall not' esca'pe. 4 But ye', brethren, are nọt in darkness, that that' day should overta'ke you as a thief. 5 Ye are all the children of light', and the children of the day we are not' of the night', nor of darkness. 6 Therefore let us not sleep, as 'do' oth'ers; but let us watch' and be so'ber. 7 Fo'r they that sle'ep, sle'ep in the night'; and they that be drunk'en, are drunk'en in the night'. But let us', who are of the da'y, be so'ber, put'ting on the breast'plate of faith and lov'e; and for an helmet the ho'pe of salvation: 9 Fo'r Go'd hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salva'tion by our Lord Jesus Chri'st, 10 Who di'ed for us, that, wheth'er we wa'ke or sle'ẹp, we should live togeth'er with him'. 11 Wherefore com'fort yourselves togeth'er, and ed'ify one anoth'er, e'ven as also ye do'. 12 And we beseech you, brethren, to kno'w them which la'bour amon'g you, and are over you in the Lo'rd, and admon'ish you; 13 And to este'em them very highly in love for their work's' sa'ke. And' be at peace amon'g yourselves. 14 Now we exho'rt you, breth'ren, wa'rn them that are unruly, com'fort the fe'eble-mi'nded, suppo'rt the we'ak, be pa'tient to'ward a'll 'men.' 15 Se'e that none ren'der e'vil for e'vil un'to an'y

'man; but ev'er follow that which is good', bo'th amon'g yourselves, and to all men.' 16 Rejoi'ce evermore. 17 Pra'y without' ce'asing. 18 In every thing give thank's: for this is the will of Go'd in Chri'st Je'sus concerning you. 19 Quench' not the Spirit. 20 Despi'se not proph'esyings. 21 Pro've all things: hold fast' that which is good'.

Abstain from a'll appearance of e'vil. 23 And the ver'y Go'd of peace sanc'tify you wholely and I pray Go'd' your whole spirit, and so'ul, and bod'y, be preserved bla'meless un'to the com'ing of our Lo'rd Je'ṣus Chri'st. 24 Faithfulis' he' that calleth you, who also will do' it.' 25 Brethren, pra'y for us'. 26 Gre'et all the breth'ren with an holy kiss'. 27 I charge you by the Lord that this epis'tle be read' un'to all the holy breth'ren. 28 The gra'ce of our Lo'rd Je'sus Chri'st be with you. THE SECOND EPISTLE OF PAUL THE APOSTLE TO

THE THESSALONIANS.

CHAPTER I.

PAUL, and Silva'nus, and Timo'theus, un'to the church of the Thessalonians in Go'd our Father, and the Lo'rd Je'sus Chri'st: 2 Gra'ce un'to you, and pe'ace from Go'd our Father, and the Lo'rd Jesus Chri'st. 3 We are bound' to thank' Go'd always for you, breth'ren, as it is me'et, beca'use that your fa'ith gro'weth exceedingly, and the char'ity of every one of you a'll to'ward each oth'er aboun'deth; So that we ourselves glo'ry in you in the church'es of Go'd, for your patience and faith in a'll your persecutions and tribulations that ye endu're; 5 Which is' a man'ifest to'ken of the right'eous judg'ment of Go'd, that ye may be coun'ted worthy of the kingdom of Go'd, for which ye a'lso suf'fer: 6 Seeing it is' a right'eous thing with Go'd to recompense tribula'tion to them that trouble you; 7 And to you who are troubled rest' with us', when the Lo'rd Je'sus shall be

reve'aled from heaven with his might'y a'ngels, 8 In fla'ming fi're, ta'king vengeance on them' that kno'w not Go'd, and that obe'y not the gospel of our Lo'rd Je'sus Chri'st: 9 Who shall be pun'ished with everlasting destruc'tion from the presence of the Lo'rd, and from the glory of his power; To When he shall com'e to be glo'rified in his sa'ints, and to be admi'red in all them that belie've (beca'use our tes'timony among you was belie'ved) in that day. Wherefore also we pray always for you, that our Go'd would count you worthy of 'this' calling, and fulfil' a'll the good' pleasure of 'his' good'ness, and the work' of faith with power: 12 That the na'me of our Lo'rd Jesus Chri'st may be glo'rified in yo'u, and ye' in him', acco'rding to the gra'ce of our Go'd and the Lo'rd Je'sus Chri'st.

CHAP. II. Now, we beseech you, brethren, by the com'ing of our Lo'rd Je'sus Chri'st, and by' our gath'ering togeth'er un'to him, 2 That ye be not so'ọn sha'kẹn in mi'nd, or be troub'led, ne'ither by spirit, nor by word', nor by let'ter as from us', as that the day of Chri'st is at hand'. 3 Let no' man dece'ive you by an'y me'ans: fo'r 'that' day shall not com'e,' except' there com'e a fa'lling awa'y first, and that' man of sin' be revealed, the son of perdition; 4 Who oppo'seth and exa'lteth himself' above all that is called Go'd, or that is wor'shipped; so that he', as Go'd, sit'teth in the tem'ple of Go'd, she'wing himself' that he' is Go'd. 5 Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with' you, I told you these things? 6 And now ye kno'w what withhoʻldeth that he might be revealed in his time. 7 Fo'r the mys'tery of iniq'uity doth already work: o'nly he whọ now let'teth 'will' let,' until he be taken out of the wa'y: 8 And then' shall that Wick'ed be reve'aled, whom the Lo'rd shall consu'me with the spir'it of his mouth', and shall destroy with the bright'ness of his com'ing: 9E'ven him',' whose com'ing is after the work'ing of Sa'tạn, with a'll power, and signs, and ly'ing won'ders, 10 And with a'll dece'ivableness of unrighteousness in them that per'ish; beca'use they received not the lov'e of the truth, that they might be saved. 11 And for this ca'use Go'd shall send' them strong delu'sion, that they should belie've a l'e; 12 That they a'll might be dam'ned who belie'ved not the truth, but had pleas'ure in unright'eousness. 13 But we are bound' to give thank's a'lway to Go'd for you, breth'ren beloved of the Lo'rd, beca'use Go'd hath from the begin'

ning cho'sen you to salva'tion through sanctification of the Spirit, and belie'f of the truth: 14 Whereunto' he called you by our gos'pel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lo'rd Je'sus Chri'st. 15 Therefore, breth'ren, stand fast', and hold the tradit'ions which ye have been taught, wheth'er by word', or our epis'tle. 16 Now' our Lord Jesus Chri'st himself', and Go'd, e'ven our Fa'ther, which hath loved us, and hath given 'us' everlasting consola'tion, and good' hope through gra'ce, 17 Com'fort your hearts, and stab'lish you in ev'ery good' word' and work'.

CHAP. III. Finally, breth'ren, pra'y for us', that the word' of the Lo'rd may have 'fre'e' co'urse and be gloʻrified, e'ven as it is' with yo'ụ; 2 And that we' may be deliv'ered from unre'asonable and wick'ed men: fo'r a'll 'men' have not fa'ith. 3 But the Lo'rd is faithful, who shall stab'lish you, and ke'ep 'you' from e'vil. 4 And we have con'fidence in the Lo'rd touch'ing you, that ye both do' and will' do the things which we command' you. 5 And the Lo'rd direct your hea'rts in'to the love of Go'd, and in'to the pa'tient wa'iting for Chri'st. 6 Now we command' you, brethren, in the na'me of our Lo'rd Jesus Chri'st, that ye withdra'w yourselves from every broth'er that wa'lketh disorderly, and not af'ter the tradition which he received of us. 7 Fo'r yourselves kno'w how ye o'ught to follow us: fo'r we beha'ved not ourselves diso'rderly amon'g you: 8 Neither did we eat an'y man's bread' for na'ught; but wrought with la'bour and trav'ail night' and da'y, that we might not be chargeable to an'y of you: 9 Not' beca'use we have not power, but to make ourselves an ensam ple un'to you to follow us. 10 Fo'r e'ven when we were with' you, this' we comman'ded you, that if an'y would not work', neither should he eat. For we hear that there are som'e which walk amon'g you diso'rderly, work'ing not at a'll, but are bus'ybodies. 12 Now them' that are such we command' and exho'rt by our Lo'rd Je'sus Chri'st, that with quietness they work', and e'at their o'wn bread. 13 But ye', brethren, be not we'ary in well-doing. 14 And if an'y man obe'y not our word' by this epis'tle, no'te that man, and have no com'pany with him, that he may be asha'med. 15 Yet count him' not as an en'emy, but admon'ish him' as a broth'er. 16 Now the Lo'rd of peace himself' give you peace a'lways by all means. The Lo'rd be with you all. 17 The saluta'tion of Pa'ul with mine

o'wn hand', which is the to'ken in ev'ery epis'tle: so' I write. 18 The gra'ce of our Lo'rd Jesus Chri'st 'be' with' you all. A'men.

THE FIRST EPISTLE OF PAUL THE APOSTLE TO

TIMOTHY.

CHAPTER I.

1 PA'UL, an apos'tle of Je'sus Chri'st by the command'ment of Go'd our Saviour, and Lo'rd Je'sus Chri'st, which is' our ho'pe; 2 Un'to Tim'othy, 'my' own son' in the fa'ith Gra'ce, mer'cy, and' pe'ace, from Go'd our Father, and Jesus Chri'st our Lo'rd. 3 As I beso'ught thee to abi'de still at Eph'esus, when I went in'to Macedonia, that thou mightest charge som'e that they te'ach no oth'er doc'trine, 4 Neither give he'ed to fa'bles and end'less genealogies, which min'ister questions rath'er than god'ly ed'ifying which is in faith; so do. 5 Now the end' of the command'ment is char'ity, out of a pu're hea'rt, and 'of' a good' con'science, and of faith unfe'igned: 6 From which some hav'ing swerv'ed, have turned asi'de un'to vain jan'gling; 7 Desi'ring to be te'achers of the law; understan'ding neither what' they sa'y, nor whereof' they affirm'. 8 But we know that the law 'is' good', if a man u'ṣe it la'wfully; 9 Kno'wing this', that the law is not' made for a right'eous man, but for the la'wless and disobe'dient, for the ungodly and for sin'ners, for unho'ly and profa'ne, for mur'derers of fa'thers and mur'derers of moth'ers, for mansla'yers, 10 For who'remongers, for them that defi'le themselves with mankind, for men-ste'alers, for liars, for per'jured persons, and if there be an'y oth'er thing that is con'trary to sound doc'trine; 1 According to the glo'rious gos'pel of the bless'ed Go'd, which was commit'ted to my trust. 12 And I thank' Chri'st Je'sus our Lo'rd, who hath ena'bled me, for that he coun'ted me faithful, put'ting me'
