sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary. 25 And in the fourth watch' of the night Je'sus went un'to them, walking on the sea. 26 And when the disci'ples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, sa'ying, It is a spirit; and they cri'ed out for fear. 27 But straightway Je'sus spake un'to them, sa'ying, Be of good' che'er it is I; be not afraid. 28 And Pe'ter an'swered him, and said, Lo'rd, if it be thou, bid me come un'to thee on the wa'ter. 29 And he said, Come. And when Pe'ter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Je'sus. 30 But when he saw the wind bois'terous, he was afraid; and, begin'ning to sink, he cri'ed, sa'ying, Lo'rd, sa'vẹ me. 31 And immediately Je'sus stretched fo'rth 'his' hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt? 32 And when they were come in'to the ship, the wind ce'ased. 33 Then they that were in the ship came and wor'shipped him, sa'ying, of a truth thou art the Son of Go'd.

34 And when they were gone o'ver, they came into the land of Gennes aret. 35 And when the men of that place had knowledge of him, they sent out in'to all that coun'try round about', and brought un'to him a'll that were dise'ased; 36 And beso'ught him that they might o'nly touch the hem of his ga'rment and as man'y as touched were made perfectly who'lę. CHAP. XV.1 Then came to Je'sus scri'bes and Pharisees, which were of Jerusalem, sa'ying, 2 Why do thy disciples transgress' the tradition of the el'ders? for they wash' not their hands when they eat bread. 3 But he an'swered and said un'to them, Why do ye also transgress' the command'ment of Go'd by your tradition? 4 For Go'd comman'ded, sa'ying, Hon'our thy father and thy moth'er: and he that cur'seth father or mother, let him die the death. 5 But ye say, Whosoever shall say to 'his' father or 'his' moth'er, "It is a gift, by whatsoev'er thou mightest be profited by 6 And honour not his father or his mother, he shall be free.' Thus have ye made the command'ment of Go'd of none effect' by your tradition. 7'Ye' hyp'ocrites, well did. Esa'ias proph'esy of you, sa'ying, & This pe'ople dra'weth nigh un'to me with their mouth, and hon'oureth me with 'their lips; but their hea'rt is far from me. 9 But in va'in they do wor'ship me, te'aching 'for' doc'trines the command'ments of men.

10 And he called the multitude, and said un'to them,

Hear, and understand': 11 Not that which go'eth in'to the mouth defi'leth man; but that which com'eth out of the mouth, this defi'leth a man. 12 Then came his disciples, and said un'to him, Kno'west thou that the Pharisees were offen'ded after they heard this sa'ying? 13 But he an'swered and said, Every plant which my heav'enly Father hath not planted, shall be root'ed up. 14 Let them alo'ne: they be bli'nd leaders of the blind. And if the bli'nd lead the bli'nd, bo'th shall fa'll in'to the ditch. 15 Then an'swered Pe'ter, and said un'to him, Decla're un'to us this parable. 16 And Je'sus said, Are ye also yet without' understan'ding? 17 Do not ye yet understand', that whatsoever en'tereth in at the mouth go'eth in'to the bell'y, and is cast' out into the draught? 18 But those things which proce'ed out of the mouth come fo'rth from the hea'rt; and they defile the man. 19 For out of the hea'rt proce'ed e'vil thoughts, mur'ders, adul'teries, fornica'tions, thefts, false wit'ness, blasphemies: 20 These are the things' which defi'le a man: but to eat with unwash'en hands defi'leth not a man.

21 Then Je'sus went thence, and departed in'to the co'asts of Tyre and Si'don. 22 And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same co'asts, and cri'ed un'to him, sa'ying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou' son of Da'vid; my da'ughter is grie'vously vexed with a dev'il. 23 But he an swered her not a word. And his disci'ples came and besought him, saying, Send her awa'y; for she cri'eth af'ter us. But he answered and said, I am not sent but un'to the lost she'ep of the house of Israel. 25 Then came she and wor'shipped him, sa'ying, Lo'rd, help me. 26 But he an'swered and said, It is not me'et to take the children's bread, and to cast' 'it' to dogs. 27 And she said, Tru'th, Lo'rd yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their master's ta'ble. 28 Then Je'sus an'swered and said un'to her, O wom'an, grea't 'is' thy fa'ith: be it unto thee e'ven as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whoʻle from that very hour.

29 And Je'sus departed from thence, and came nigh un'to the sea of Galilee, and went up in'to a moun'tain, and sat down there. 30 And grea't multitudes came un'to him, having with them those that were' lame, bli'nd, dumb, ma'imed, and man'y oth'ers, and cast' them down at Je'sus' fe'et, and he healed them; 31 Insomuch' that the multitude won'dered, when they saw the dumb to speak, the ma'jmed to be who'le,

the lame to walk, and the bli'nd to see: and they glo'rified the Go'd of Is'rael.

32 Then Je'sas called his disci'ples 'un'to him,' and said, I have compass'ion on the multitude, because they contin'ue with me now three days, and have nothing to eat: and I will not send them awa'y fas'ting, lest they fa'int in the way. 33 And his disciples say un'to him, Whence should we have so much bread in the wilderness, as to fill' so grea't a multitude? 34 And Je'sus saith un'to them, How man'y loaves have ye? And they said, Seven, and a few little fish'es. 35 And he comman'ded the mul'titude to sit down on the ground. 36 And he took' the seven lo’aves and the fish'es, and gave thanks, and brake them,' and gave to his disciples, and the disci'ples to the multitude. 37 And they did a'll eat, and were filled and they took up of the broken 'me'at' that was left seven bas'kets full'. 38 And they that did e'at were four thousand men, besi'des wom'en and children. 39 And he sent awa'y the multitude, and took' ship, and came in'to the coasts of Mag'dala.

CHAP. XVI. The Pharisees also, with the Sadducees, came, and tem'pting, deși'red him that he would shew them a sign from heaven. 2 He answered and said un'to them, When it is e'vening, ye say, 'It will be' fa'ir weath'er; for the sky is red: 3 And in the mo'rning, 'It will be' foul weath'er to-da'y; for the sky is red and low'ering. O'ye' hypocrites, ye can discern' the face of the sky; but can ye not discern" the signs of the times? 4 A wick'ed and adulterous genera'tion se'eketh after a sign, and there shall no sign be given un'to it, but the sign of the prophet Jo'nas. And he left them, and departed.

5 And when his disci'ples were come to the other side, they had forgot'ten to take bread.

6 Then Jesus said un'to them, Take he'ed, and bewa're of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees. 7 And they reasoned among themselves, sa'ying, 'It is' beca'use we have taken no bread. 8 Which' when Je'sus perceived, he said unto them, O ye of little faith, why re'ason ye amon'g yourselves, beca'use ye have brought no bread? 9 Do ye not yet understand', ne'ither remember the five loaves of the five thou'sand, and how man'y bas'kets ye took' up? 10 Neither the seven lo aves of the four thou'sand, and how man'y baskets ye took' up? 11 How is it that ye do not understand' that I spake 'it' not to you concer'ning bread, that

ye should' bewa're of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sad'ducees? 12 Then understood' they how that he bade 'them' not bewa're of the leaven of bread, but of the doc'trine of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.

13 When Je'sus came in'to the coasts of Cesare'a Philip'pi, he asked his disci'ples, sa'ying, Whom do men say that I, the Son of man, am? 14 And they said, Some say that thou art' John the Bap'tist; some Eli'as; and oth'ers Jeremi'as, or one of the proph'ets. 15 He saith un'to them, But whom say ye that I am? 16 And Si'mon Pe'ter an'swered and said, Thou art the Chri'st, the Son of the living Go'd. 17 And Je'sus an'swered and said un'to him, Bless'ed art thou, Si'mon Bar-jo'na: for flesh and blood hath not reve'aled 'it' un'to thee, but my Father which is in heaven. 18 And I say also un'to thee, That thou art Pe'ter, and upon' this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. 19 And I will give un'to thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoev'er thou shalt bi'nd on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatsoever thou shalt lo'ose on earth shall be lo'osed in heaven. 20 Then charged he his disci'ples that they should tell no man that he was' Je'sus the Chri'st.

21 From that time fo'rth began' Je'sus to shew un'to his disci'ples, how that he must go un'to Jeru'salem, and suf'fer man'y things of the el'ders, and chie'f prie'sts, and scri'bes, and be killed, and be ra'ised again' the third day. Then Pe'ter took him, and began' to rebu'ke him, sa'ying, Be it far from thee, Lo'rd: this shall not be un'to thee. 23 But he turned and said un'to Pe'ter, Get thee behind' me, Sa'tạn; thou art an offenc'e un'to me: for thou sa'vourest not the things that be of Go'd, but those that be of men.

24 Then said Jesus un'to his disci'ples, If an'y 'man' will come after me, let him deny' himself', and take up his cross, and follow me. 25 For whosoever will sa've his life shall lo'se it; and whosoev'er will lo'se his life for my sake shall find it. 26 For what' is a man prof'ited, if he shall ga'in the whole world, and lo'se his own so'ul? or what' shall a man give in exchange for his so'ul? 27 For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father, with his a'ngels; and then he shall rewa'rd ev'ery man according to his works. 28 Verily I say un'to you, There be some stan'ding here which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man com'ing in his kingdom.

CHAP. XVII.-1 And af'ter six days Je'sus ta'kẹth Pe'ter, Ja'mes, and John his broth'er, and brin'geth them up in'to an high moun'tain apa'rt, 2 And was transfigʻured befo're them and his face did shine as the sun, and his ra'i̟ment was white as the light. 3 And, behold, there appeared un'to them Mo'ses and Eli'as talking with him. Then an'swered Pe'ter, and said un'to Je'sus, Lo'rd, it is good' for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tab'ernacles; one for thee, and one for Mo'ses, and one for Elias. 5 While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; he'ar ye him. 6 And when the disci'ples heard 'it,' they fell on their face, and were sore afraid. 7 And Je'ṣus came and touched them, and said, Ari'se, and be not afraid. 8 And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Jesus o'nly. 9 And as they came down from the moun'tain, Je'sus cha'rged them, sa'ying, Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen again' from the dead. 10 And his disci'ples asked him, sa'ying, Why then say the scribes that Eli'as must first come? 11 And Je'sus an'swered and said un'to them, Eli'as truly shall first come, and resto're all things. 12 But I say un'to you, That Eli'as is come already, and they knew him not, but have done un'to him whatsoev'er they lis'ted: lik'ewise shall also the Son of man suf'fer of them. 13 Then the disci'ples understood' that he spake un'to them of John the Bap'tist.

14 And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a certain' man, kne'eling down to him, and sa'ying, 15 Lo'rd, have mercy on my son; for he is lu'natick, and sore vexed: for oft-times he fa'lleth in'to the fire, and oft in'to the wa'ter. 16 And I brought him to thy disci'ples, and they could not cu're him. 17 Then Je'sus an'swered and said, O faithless and pervers'e genera'tion, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? Bring him hith'er to me. 18 And Jesus rebu'ked the devil, and he departed out of him; and the child was cu'red from that ver'y hour. 19 Then came the disci'ples to Je'sus apa'rt, and said, Why could not we cast' him out? 20 And Je'sus said un'to them, Because of your unbelie'f: for verily I say un'to you, If ye have faith as a gra'in of mus'tard-se'ed, ye shall say unto this moun'tain, Remo've hence to yon'der place, and it shall remo've; and nothing shall be impossible
