Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower. Mk. 4.14" The sower soweth the word. When any one M. 13. “heareth the word of the kingdom, and under19" standeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, "and catcheth away that which was sown in "his heart. This is he which received seed by 20" the way side. But he that received the seed "into stony places, the same is he that heareth "the word, and anon with joy receiveth it; Is. 58. 2. 21 yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth Ezek. 33. "for a while: for when tribulation or persecu"tion ariseth because of the word, by and by 22 "hhe is offended. He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the 1 Tim. 6. "No man, when he hath lighted a candle, L. 8. "covereth it with a vessel, or putteth it under 16 "a bed; but setteth it on a candlestick, that they which enter in may see the light. For 17 "nothing is secret, that shall not be made "manifest; neither any thing hid, that shall not "be known and come abroad. Take heed there- 18 "fore how ye hear: for whosoever hath, to him “shall be given; and whosoever hath not, from "him shall be taken even that which he seem"eth to have."

Another parable put he forth unto them, say- M". 13. ing, "The kingdom of heaven is likened unto 24 "a man which sowed good seed in his field: "but while men slept, his enemy came and 25 "sowed tares among the wheat, and went his

"them. Let both grow together until the har- 30

"the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares,
"and bind them in bundles to burn them: but

gather the wheat into my barn." And he said, M*. 4. "So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should 26 "cast seed into the ground; and should sleep, 27 "and rise night and day, and the seed should

spring and grow up, he knoweth not how.

Another parable spake he unto them; "The
kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which

a woman took, and hid in three measures of

things spake Jesus unto the multitude in paraMk. 4. bles; as they were able to hear it. But without 33, 34 a parable spake he not unto them: and when they were alone, he expounded all things to his M. 13. disciples: that it might be fulfilled which was 35 spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my ° Ps. 78. 2. mouth in parables; PI will utter things which Rom. 16. have been kept secret from the foundation of 1 Cor. 2.7. the world.

Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto 47

Now when Jesus saw great multitudes about A. D. 31. him, he gave commandment to depart unto the 19 other side. And a certain scribe came, and said

unto him, Master, I will follow thee whither20 soever thou goest. And Jesus saith unto him,

"The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air
"have nests; but the Son of man hath not where
"to lay his head."

And another of his disciples said unto him, Lord, a suffer me first to go and bury my father. See 22 But Jesus said unto him, "Follow me; and let L. 9. 60" the dead bury their dead: but go thou and "preach the kingdom of God."

61 And another also said, Lord, "I will follow See
thee; but let me first go bid them farewell,

said unto him, “No man, having put his hand
"to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the
kingdom of God."

And when he was entered into a ship, his 23 disciples followed him, and they launched forth. L. 8. 22 And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the M". 8. sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with 24 the waves.

Mk. 4. And he was in the hinder part of the ship, 38 asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and

say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we 39 perish? And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, "Peace, be still." And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. 40 And he said unto them, "Why are ye so fear41" ful? how is it that ye have no faith?" And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?
