A. Yes. Mat. xxvi. 26. Jefus took Bread and bleffed it, and gave it to the Disciples, and faid, Take, eat, this is my Body. 27,28. And he took the Cup, and gave Thanks, and gave it to them, faying, Drink ye all of it: For this is my Blood.

Q. Must we equally receive beth thefe Elements of Bread and Wine?

A. Yes. For the Lord commanded both to be received. 1 Cor. XI. 23, 24.

Q. Are the Body and Blood of Chrift the inward Part of this Sacrament?

A. Yes. Mat. xxvi. Of the Bread he faith, This is my Body. And of the Cup he faith, This is my Blood.

Q. Is then the Body of Chrift fignified by the Bread?

A. Yes. This is my Body which is broken for you. I Cor. XP. 24.

Q. And is his Blood likewife fignified by the 'Wine in the Sacrament?

Q. May not the Body and Blood of Chrift, be here taken for Chrift himself, i, e. his whole Per fon, who fuffered in his Body, and fhed his Blood for us?

2. To have a lively Faith in God's Mercy, through Chrift? A. Yes. Act. xxvi. 18. That they may rereive Forgiveness of Sins by Faith that is in me.

3. To have a thankful Remembrance of Chrift's Death? A. Yes. 1 Cor. xi. 26. As of ten as ye eat this Bread, and drink this Cup, ye do fhew the Lord's Death till he.come.

4. And to be in Charity with all Men? A. Yes. 1 John iv. 11. If God fo loved us, we ought also to love one another.

Q. Is it not therefore necessary, in order to thefe Ends, that we examin and search ourselves, before me come to this Holy Sacrament ?~

A. Yes. 1 Cor, xi. 28. But let a Man exa mine himself, and fo let him eat of that Bread and drink of that Cup. v. 31. For if we would judge ourselves, we fhould not be judged.

Catechift. To receive the Holy Sacrament of the Body and Blood of Chrift, is his plain, pofitive, and exprefs Command unto us; yea his dying Command, and a gracious Provifion for the Neceffities of our Souls. And if we do it not, we difobey this his Command, flight this his Love, and injuriously deprive ourselves of our fpiritual Food and Nourishment, Or if we do receive it, but not in a due Manner, according to the Qua lifications that are before mentioned, we fin no less by a prophane Abuse of it. To avoid both thefe Extremes, and the Dangers thereof,we must examine ourselves, touching

all thofe things, that are neceffary to fit and qualify us for the Divine and Holy Ordinance; that if we are prepared for it, as here we are taught to be, we may eat of this Bread and drink of this Cup. Or if not, we may instantly apply ourselves fo to rectify our Hearts and Lives, as that we may serve God acceptably, in this and all our other Duties.
