THE Poems which are included in this Volume, have all of them long since received the stamp of public approbation. Enriched with drawings by the first artists of the day, they are now offered together, a Treasury of England's poetic wealth.

The Editor has not always been able to follow his own choice in the selection of the Poems; the length of some-such as BLOOMFIELD'S Farmer's Boy, and CAMPBELL'S Pleasures of Hope-has obliged him in many instances to seek the shorter pieces of other authors.

The Illustrations to GOLDSMITH'S "Deserted Village," are copied with permission-from the Works of "The Etching Club."

The Editor hopes shortly to publish a Companion Volume of Favourite Poems of the two preceding centuries, uniform in every respect with the present Volume.

ST. JOHN'S WOOD,

October, 1861.
