This through countless ages Men and angels sing.
Onward, Christian soldiers, Marching as to war, With the cross of Jesus Going on before.
NCE in royal David's city Stood a lowly cattle shed, Where a mother laid her baby, In a manger for his bed; Mary was that mother mild, Jesus Christ her little child.
2 He came down to earth from heaven Who is God and Lord of all, And his shelter was a stable, And his cradle was a stall: With the poor, and mean, and lowly, Lived on earth our Saviour holy.
3 And, through all his wondrous childhood, He would honour and obey, Love, and watch the lowly maiden In whose gentle arms he lay; Christian children all must be Mild, obedient, good as he.
4 For he is our childhood's pattern, Day by day like us he grew; He was little, weak, and helpless, Tears and smiles like us he knew; And he feeleth for our sadness, And he shareth in our gladness.
5 And our eyes at last shall see him, Through his own redeeming love, For that child so dear and gentle
Is our Lord in heaven above; And he leads his children on To the place where he is gone.
6 Not in that poor lowly stable, With the oxen standing by, We shall see him; but in heaven, Set at God's right hand on high; When like stars his children crowned All in white shall wait around.
Confirmation.
"With my whole heart have I sought thee."
Y God, accept my heart this day, And make it always thine,
That I from thee no more may stray, No more from thee decline.
2 Before the cross of him who died, Behold, I prostrate fall; Let every sin be crucified,
And Christ be all in all.
3 Anoint me with thy heavenly grace, And seal me for thine own; That I may see thy glorious face, And worship near thy throne.
4 Let every thought, and work, and word, To thee be ever given;
Then life shall be thy service, Lord, And death the gate of heaven!
"My heart is fixed, O God, my heart is fixed." HAPPY day, that stays my choice On thee, my Saviour and my God: Well may this glowing heart rejoice, And tell thy goodness all abroad. 20 happy bond, that seals my vows, To him who merits all my love; Let cheerful anthems fill his house, While to his sacred throne I move.
3 'Tis done, the great transaction's done; Deign, gracious Lord, to make me thine; Help me, through grace, to follow on, Glad to confess thy voice divinc.
4 Here rest, my oft-divided heart,
Fix'd on thy God, thy Saviour, rest; Who with the world would grieve to part When call'd on angels' food to feast?
5 High heaven, that heard the solemn vow, That vow renew'd shall daily hear,
Till in life's latest hour I bow,
And bless in death a bond so dear.
"What things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ."
ESUS, I my cross have taken, All to leave and follow thee; Destitute, despised, forsaken,
Thou from hence my all shalt be: Perish every fond ambition,
All I've sought, or hoped, or known;
Yet how rich is my condition!
God and heaven are still my own.
2 Man may trouble and distress me, "Twill but drive me to thy breast; Life with trials hard may press me, Heaven will bring me sweeter rest. O'tis not in grief to harm me, While thy love is left to me; O'twere not in joy to charm me, Were that joy unmix'd with thee. 3 Take, my soul, thy full salvation; Rise o'er sin, and fear, and care; Joy to find in every station Something still to do or bear: Think what Spirit dwells within thee; What a Father's smile is thine; What a Saviour died to win thee; Child of heaven, shouldst thou repine? 4 Haste then on from grace to glory, Arm'd by faith, and wing'd by prayer; Heaven's eternal day's before thee, God's own hand shall guide thee there. Soon shall close thy earthly mission, Swift shall pass thy pilgrim days; Hope soon change to glad fruition, Faith to sight, and prayer to praise.
2 May thy rich grace impart Strength to my fainting heart, My zeal inspire;
As thou hast died for me, O may my love to thee Pure, warm, and changeless be, A living fire.
3 While life's dark maze I tread, And griefs around me spread, Be thou my guide; Bid darkness turn to day, Wipe sorrow's tears away, Nor let me ever stray
4 When ends life's transient dream, When death's cold, sullen stream Shall o'er me roll, Blest Saviour, then in love, Fear and distrust remove; O bear me safe above,
"And they shall be mine, saith the Lord of hosts, in
238 that day when I make up my jewels."
HINE for ever:-God of love, Hear us from thy throne above; Thine for ever may we be, Here and in eternity.
2 Thine for ever:-Lord of life, Shield us through our earthly strife: Thou the life, the truth, the way, Guide us to the realms of day.
3 Thine for ever:-O how bless'd They who find in thee their rest!
