μεν τὸ πνεῦμα τῆς ἀληθείας καὶ τὸ πνεῦμα τῆς πλάνης. Αγαπητοὶ, ἀγαπῶμεν ἀλλήλους· ὅτι ἡ ἀγάπη ἐκ τοῦ Θεοῦ ἐστι, καὶ πᾶς ὁ ἀγαπῶν, ἐκ τοῦ Θεοῦ γεγέννη8ται, καὶ γινώσκει τὸν Θεόν· ὁ μὴ ἀγαπῶν, οὐκ ἔγνω 9 τὸν Θεὸν, ὅτι ὁ Θεὸς ἀγάπη ἐστίν. 14 Καὶ ἡμεῖς τεθεάμεθα καὶ μαρτυροῦμεν, ὅτι ὁ πατὴρ 15 ἀπέσταλκε τὸν υἱὸν σωτῆρα τοῦ κόσμου· ὃς ἂν ὁμολο

γήσῃ ὅτι Ἰησοῦς ἐστιν ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ Θεοῦ, ὁ Θεὸς ἐν αὐτῷ 16 μένει, καὶ αὐτὸς ἐν τῷ Θεῷ. Καὶ ἡμεῖς ἐγνώκαμεν καὶ πεπιστεύκαμεν τὴν ἀγάπην, ἣν ἔχει ὁ Θεὸς ἐν ἡμῖν. ὁ Θεὸς ἀγάπη ἐστὶ, καὶ ὁ μένων ἐν τῇ ἀγάπῃ, ἐν τῷ Θεῷ μένει, καὶ ὁ Θεὸς ἐν αὐτῷ.

17 Ἐν τούτῳ τετελείωται ἡ ἀγάπη μεθ ̓ ἡμῶν, ἵνα παρ ρησίαν ἔχωμεν ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῆς κρίσεως, ὅτι καθὼς ἐκεῖνός 18 ἐστι, καὶ ἡμεῖς ἐσμεν ἐν τῷ κόσμῳ τούτῳ. φόβος οὐκ ἔστιν ἐν τῇ ἀγάπῃ, ἀλλ ̓ ἡ τελεία ἀγάπη ἔξω βάλλει τὸν φόβον, ὅτι ὁ φόβος κόλασιν ἔχει· ὁ δὲ φοβούμενος οὐ 19 τετελείωται ἐν τῇ ἀγάπῃ. ἡμεῖς ἀγαπῶμεν αὐτὸν, ὅτι 20 αὐτὸς πρῶτος ἠγάπησεν ἡμᾶς. Εάν τις εἴπῃ, Οτι ἀγαπῶ τὸν Θεὸν, καὶ τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ μισῇ, ψεύστης ἐστίν· ὁ γὰρ μὴ ἀγαπῶν τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ ὃν ἑώρακε, τὸν 11 Θεὸν ὃν οὐχ ἑώρακε πῶς δύναται ἀγαπᾷν; καὶ ταύτην τὴν ἐντολὴν ἔχομεν ἀπ' αὐτοῦ, ἵνα ὁ ἀγαπῶν τὸν Θεὸν, ἀγαπᾷ καὶ τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ.

loved, let us love one another: for love is of God; n ch. 3. 10, and every one that loveth is born of God, and know- II, 23. 8 eth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; 9 P God is love. In this was manifested the love God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, 'that we might live through 10 him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but rch. 5. 11. that he loved us, and sent his Son 'to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, "if God so loved us, wet ch. 2.2. 12 ought also to love one another. No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwell- 13. ch. 3. 16. 13 eth in us, and his love is perfected in us. Hereby 1 Tim. 6. 16. know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because y ch. 2. 5. he hath given us of his Spirit.

5 WHOSOEVER a believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: dand every one that loveth him 2 begat loveth him also that is begotten of him. this we know that we love the children of God, when 3 we love God, and keep his commandments. ΤΑΥΤΑ ἔγραψα ὑμῖν τοῖς πιστεύουσιν εἰς τὸ ὄνομα τοῦ υἱοῦ τοῦ Θεοῦ, ἵνα εἰδῆτε ὅτι ζωὴν ἔχετε αἰώνιον, 14 καὶ ἵνα πιστεύητε εἰς τὸ ὄνομα τοῦ υἱοῦ τοῦ Θεοῦ. Καὶ αὕτη ἐστὶν ἡ παρρησία ἣν ἔχομεν πρὸς αὐτὸν, ὅτι ἐάν τι 15 αἰτώμεθα κατὰ τὸ θέλημα αὐτοῦ, ἀκούει ἡμῶν· καὶ ἐὰν

This is he that came by water and blood, even i John 19. 34. Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, 7 cause the Spirit is truth. For there are three bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, 8 the Holy Ghost: m and these three are one. there are three that bear witness in earth, the spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree 9 in one. If we receive "the witness of men, the wit- n John 8. 17, ness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God 。 Matt. 3. 16, 10 which he hath testified of his Son.
