Preface to the Second Edition

THIS Second Edition has been considerably enlarged, advantage having been taken of additional matter supplied by reviews of the book in the Quarterly Review, the Athenæum, the Church Times, &c. The Fatality of Numbers, having been objected to as not a Myth, has been relegated to the Appendix, and its place supplied by an article on S. Patrick's Purgatory.
